Definitely an increase in Berners around here, and sadly the Amish are jumping on that bandwagon. Huge dysplastic dogs with poor temperaments and zero socialization. Awesome.

(And Bernadoodles. Wut?)

The only recent change in doggy population I've seen recently has been the extreme increase in Goldendoodles in my area. It seems like every third puppy is a Goldendoodle and we have a TON coming in for boarding and grooming.

They're all insane, too.

I work at a dog daycare and we see everything around here. Mostly smaller dogs especially poodle mixes. We do have a couple pyrs at my work and a LOT of GSDs and quite a few weims. Personally I like the tall really lean trim look which is probably partly why I love sighthounds.

Lots of big dogs at work- loads of berners, danes, GSDs, weims, vizslas, GSPs, etc. And an unreal amount of doodles of all sizes.

I've seen the large dog trend coming for a while. Not just the large and giant breeds, but large and giant dogs in general. All the over-sized Sibes, Rotts, GSDs, Labs, and who knows what else. Then people got wind that large dogs are easy dogs, and that isn't really true. Let alone the temperament problems, health issues. BYB'ers picked them up. It's only been growing since. For most of the general public, a poor tempered dog isn't a big deal. You just throw them in the backyard, right? Go and get a new puppy.

It's just another trend. There's several in my area.

I've recently been seeing a lot of Shar Pei/Mastiffs and Shar Pei/Pit Bulls. Not the nicest dogs I've encountered either.

You know...I've met plenty of nice Shar Peis, and some nice Chows, but Shar Pei or Chow mixes make some pretty bad tempered dogs...
I've met some super nice Shar Peis. I groom a few and they are neat. I groom one nice Chow.

But I agree....the mixes I've encountered are just not nice.
