I went for a hike with the dogs today on leash and used an old retractable leash I had and it worked really well. But it's old and I don't trust it.

So, favorite retractable leashes? Suggestions?

I don't use my flexi often, but it's still holding up well after 3 years or so.

Another vote for the Flexi all-belt, although I do have an extra-long cord Flexi that is pretty awesome for non-trustworthy dogs in large open areas.

FLEXI!

I have the 23ft one that's a cord and it's for dogs up to 44lbs (even though Jackson's only 18) but it just FEELS more sturdy to me which I like. This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MUQQ6Y?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

We have a belt one for small dogs up to 20lbs or something like that, and it does seem to sturdy to me too.

I'm a dog walker and have used a few other off-brands of retractable leads and NONE of them have the same feel to me as Flexi.

Flexi for me, too. I've had a couple of other brands given to me, but I like Flexi the most. I have a 23 ft. cord flexi that's probably close to 20 yrs. old and I still trust it, although I don't use retractable leashes too often (usually just on vacation).

Another vote for Flexi, here! We have an all-belt and a cord. Use them for when the girls are in heat.

Does anyone have a preference toward one handle/grip design over another for their retractable leashes? My dog is a little wild yet for me to feel comfortable having him on one, but in a year or two once he has matured and his leash manners have further improved I would like to have one. I'm cautious because he is pretty big, pretty fast, and sometimes hits the end of his long line hard when he's excited, and I've seen those slick plastic retractable leash handles come sailing out of people's hands way too often not to be picky about how the handle is designed. Especially since the size of the handle tends to go up with the durability of the leash, and my hands are pretty small.
