Aight, i think i posted this before, but i didn't get any responses, and this issue of mine only seems to be worsening. When I mentioned it to a doctor, she just shrugged, and basically ignored my comment (cool, huh?) I'm just wondering if anyone else gets this...and if so, what you do about it/is there any kind of diagnosis...

I started noticing that my joint pain was abnormal when I took a class that required us to sit on mats on the floor...people would sit, leaning back on their hands, with arms extended, legs out...and could sit like that for nearly the whole class, and appeared to get up with zero issue.

Me on the other hand struggled every class to find a comfortable position. When I would sit like that, after only a few minutes, getting out of the position, or shifting my weight would cause a pretty bad pain in my wrists...im sure you have experienced it yourself in your knee after sitting on your leg for a long time, or in your wrist when sitting the way I described even...that really painful feeling where your joint is stuck in that position, and it is painful when you move it out of that position...

this happens constantly to me, and is not ::normal:: I am visibly in pain when I move out of a position I have been in for too long which is weight bearing on any joint. (and "too long" is only a few minutes sometimes...) This happens at my shoulder joints, hip joints (especially when I am just laying on my side), knees, ankles, wrists, you name it...

It doesn't hurt when I am actually weight bearing on the joint, only immediately after, and the pain only lasts for 30 seconds or so (if that). It affects me everyday, but I've adapted to it by just changing positions a lot, and well, just dealing with the short burst of pain.

I am fairly active, eat pretty healthy and am at a healthy weight...so what gives?? Should I be concerned??

Thanks :)

Yes, you should be concerned! And your doctor shouldn't have just blown you off like that. You need to see another doctor, or get this one to refer you to a specialist of some kind, maybe an orthopedist.

That's just not usual - especially for someone your age.

Dreeza that happened to me as a child. It worsened throughout my childhood until at the age of 15 a doctor that knew or suspected what to look for found an answer. I had SLE. It was not really known about as much back then and was rare at that time but is now like other illnesses getting to become more and more. I would suggest that you get to a regular Doc and have him/her refer you to a rhumatoligist. SLe is Systemic Lupis and left un treated it can cause serious damage and can and is life threatening. Yes even today it kills. I have suffered greatly throughout my life because no one really knew what to do for it. If it is what they find you have and the symptoms you describe are part of it but there are others as well you will have to go on treatments and have out breaks. It is a very bad thing to have but ignoring it is worse.

Agree !!!! I had problems when I was 30 ...especially in my knees . X Rays showed I was loosing cartilage and had joints of a 65 year old !! What helped me was building up muscle around all joints to take away the stress . See a good bone doctor ! I'm sure there's more help today than I had 45 years ago !

See if you can get a referral to a rheumatologist. Their specialty is diseases of the bones and joints - you could be getting early onset arthritis. Whatever it is, it sounds like you need a specialist and not a GP. If it is arthritis, or some other joint/cartilage problem, there are all kinds of really good OTC things that will make it feel a lot better.

wow. thats really scary...i'm so sorry you have had to deal with that. I actually just had a teacher a few semesters ago that was diagnosed with it...i just remember him joking about how he beat the odds...cause most ppl who have it are black women, and he is a white male!

Question though...I never have considered my pains to be arthritis...I can move around just fine usually. Like, I exercise a few times a week, and never have any pains that stop me from doing so, other than knee pain...but that is something else. Does that make any difference??

Thanks for the information...and thanks everyone else...i guess i'll be getting to be doctor asap!

My first thought was arthrititis too, but I just figure you are far too young for that, at least in terms of odds. I know some people do get it young, but I know it's kind of rare.

Don't laugh but when I was a kid I remember them talking about "growing pains" that seemed similar to that. Still, Dreeza, you want to check it out.

Aussie, bless your heart.

While she is too young for arthrititis, it can happen.

My cousin Angela (who was 17 at the time) had some horrible back pain a year or so ago... took her to the ER and damned if they didn't tell her she had arthrititis. They prescribed her with an anti-inflammatory to take daily and now she is as good as new!

You may need to start taking something for joint integrity/health/support.

But yeah a better doctor would be able to tell you exactly what... as there are a number of things for different problems.

And arthritis in younger people is becoming more and more common (as is juevenile arthritis).

Lupus is the most severe arthritis. It is common among Black women but before that hit once in awhile among all people now it is rearing it's ugly head more and more. Life is a battle with it because it causes organ damage too if not kept under control. That is what caused me a heart attack at 42. Seriously Dreeza get checked. Lupus attacks similar to this when it is starting. You will have fatique, joint pain, rashes, you need to at least check. It can cause you kidneys, liver lungs heart to fail. Please it is a simple blood test. I don't mean to scare you but you need to go see. They give you steroids to get it into remission and you can live great. It will flare up and you have to know what is going on. This is how it started with me joint pain almost unbearable at times. Look up lupus and take the simple q/a and then go.

I dont know how a doctor can do this..
when i went to my gp to ask what bit me for i had a pie shaped blackish blue (the color of an eggplant) circle on m leg with a little pale center. It had radiated red lines running through it. THe doctor said "i don't know what bit you" and that was it for him. Little did i know that was the beginning of my lyme nightmare. Go get a second opinion. I am so glad you posted here and that our good CHazzers have told you their stories. And if your condition is something severe, maybe you can prevent your own nightmare. Then go back and rub that doctor's face in it.

I would definately look more into it and get another opinion by a rheumatologist. I have had joint pains since my early teens and done many tests since then. My knees have been the worse, diagnosed at 16 with loose ligaments(can't recall the name right now) under my gp constant nagging for more tests. He was convinced that there was a problem and kept going when nothing seemed to show until one final test with a specialist. After the many years of joint pains and progressive worsening, My gp referred me to a rheumalogist a few years back and after many more tests, diagnosed fibromyalgia. The problem with joint pain is that it tends to shadow over to many different diseases of the joints and hard to pin point without a specialized opinion and tests.

Is it possible that you have lyme? I'm not sure if this is true, but I've heard that joint pains can get worse if not treated.

:hail: :hail: :hail: EXACTLY what I was going to suggest... Lyme is really prevalent here, and I know quite a few people who have it, and all of them had the same symptoms--but none of them had the typical lyme 'bullet' bites on them.

If you can, try an alternative test to the Western Blot.. it's inaccurate, and often gives false negatives. There are other tests out there.
