Any DockDoggers Here?

Duke is seven years old and has competed in two national sanctioned events and one regional. At his first event he won two third place Junior Division ribbons and his best jump was 11' 4". At his next national event a few weeks ago his best jump was 12' 8" and that won him another third place.
Last weekend he competed in a regional event and jumped TOO far to win a medal. His first jump was 14' 9" which had him in first place in the Junior Division but his second jump was 15' 0" which moved him UP to last place in the Senior Division. His best jump of the day was 16' 8" but still out of the medals.
He did earn three Senior Qualifying ribbons for the competition.
His next competition will be another nationally sanctioned event here in Houston at the end of June. If he continues to improve he may be more competitive in the Senior Division but he will have to clear at least 17' 6" to have a chance at a medal.

We play around.. lol my dog is too small to really be much competition to anyone (their 'lap dog' division is pretty large IMO for lap dogs)

I would love to do dock jumping, but living in Northern Minnesota we only have a few months out of the year that it is warm enough to practice. In Fact it is June 1st and the water is still really cold as we have been below average in temps. At our petexpo we are having NorthStar Dock Dogs here. That should be fun.

It does look like Roxy would have been a real competitor. I have yet to see a Rottie at any competition but at a lake where we frequently go to swim there is a big Rottie boy who really loves to swim and retrieve.

She would have been a dock dog CH!!! She would run as fast as she could and jump as far and high as she could jump after anything you threw in the water. When your arm got tired, she would entertain herself by rolling the ball off the edge of the dock and then surface diving in, catching the ball on her way down. Then she would stand on her hind legs in the water and bark at anyone on the dock, with the ball IN her mouth, as if to say GET IN HERE AND THROW THIS.

She loved the water as much as any dog I have ever been around. Dam* I miss that dog, and she's been gone going on 8 years now. There will never be another one like her!

I'm still working on desensetizing Luna to the water (last summer she put her WHOLE leg in the water once!), so I have no big dreams of her being a dock diver.

BUT, I have a good friend who did training lessons for dock diving last summer, and got to take a friend's dog to play around in his pool. It was a lot of fun, and obviously GREAT exercise!

16'8" is a great jump, congratulations! And good luck breaking the 17' mark!

if u got a really strong person to throw her lol shes such a pansy! she likes to take 10 minutes on each step and then ease herself into the water.

but i do think it looks like a really fun doggy sport! I love to watch the labs before their runs lol they always looks so ready like "CMMOONN LEMME GO LEMME GO LEMME GO!" lol

I would like to get my lab into dock diving but we are still working getting him to love the water and also working on him actually jumping into the water. Today he made a huge leap into the water, the water was shallow but in some parts he couldnt touch the ground so maybe there is hope!

It looks like a fun sport that water loving dogs really enjoy!!
