I forgot to post here, but I was following you on FB and just loving what I saw. You guys just rocked it. And those were not easy courses by any means. He looks like he is SO FUN to run. Congrats!

Home from a quick 1 day of trialing! I am pretty sure this was Gusto's third time trialing outdoors, and with his tendency to get sniffy when he stresses, I was pretty concerned (his first ever outdoor trial, we didn't get off the start line in the first two classes). After a really crappy start to the day (my carpool buddy bailed on me, so I drove down the night before instead of in the morning; the motel was a dump and I barely slept; looked my keys in the car as soon as I got to the trial with the dogs still in it...), Gusto came right out and did a very nice, conservative PIII snooker run with no leaving me or anything. He missed a really tough weave pole entry in Standard, and completely fell apart after that. I still need to work out what I need to do with him when he makes a mistake. But I was super proud of how well he came back out for jumpers and had a nice, clean run there as well. Things are slowly coming together.
Meg ran in jumpers and standard as well (I won't let her run Snooker until Gusto has his super Qs, because she would kick his butt
). She just makes me so, so happy. She was crazy fast and happy and kind of play-bowing her way around the courses, but was clean and accurate and qualified in both runs. I said she was done titling after she got her 3 bronzes, but if she keeps going this strong, she may wind up with a silver or two before she retires!
Our next trial is a month away, but I'm so excited. 3 days on nice air conditioned sprint turf. The dogs and I are both going to be in heaven!

Oh, she gets to play as long as she wants. Meg tricks me into thinking she wants to retire by being super slow and lackluster in practices. Then she turns into a raving lunatic of joy at trials. She needs 7/8/9 more Qs for her Snooker/Jumpers/Standard silver titles. It certainly is possible! But it will either happen or not. She really owes me nothing at this point.
I was really bummed I didn't get some runs recorded this weekend. It was miserable weather with showers on and off all day, and I didn't want to be leaving my camera out for people. Our next trial is indoors, so I will definitely be recording more!

Kili had her second trial tonight. It was a very small CKC games night. Reeeeally small... like 11 dogs total. We originally only signed up for the fun run. The fun run was basically a practice run for people to try out the new PAD (points and distance) game. Kili did well so I decided to enter her for real. She did the distance bits well (only two obstacles from about 5 feet away at the Novice level) but had a couple bobbles in our handling... which is fine since you're making your own course trying to rack up points. You only get 35 seconds though! We needed to get 53 points but unfortunately Kili got distracted by the judge and messed up her weaves.... Then because we had to retry them the buzzer went before she could finish the weaves and we didn't get those 10 points. She finished with 46 points... so if we'd just been a little faster or had fewer bobbles (and if she ain't taken 3 seconds to sightsee from the top of the frame) we probably would have gotten the Q.
It was a lot of fun though. I kind of liked PAD. Will post a video tomorrow.
But that does remind me... Kili as taken to pausing at the top of the frame to look around. She used to have trouble with launching... now she's too slow. How do I address the sightseeing?
Other problem recently... she jumped off the up ramp on the dogwlk a couple times because she thought it was the teeter. I've heard of a lot of dogs having issues with teeter/dog walk discrimination and getting spooked when the teeter drops because they thought they were on the dog walk. Is there a way to teach differentiation? I use different cues (teeter vs walk it) but what else can I do?

Sunday I took the baby dogs to the local trial. My legs were not 100% (although I've been worse) so there was a bit of not 100% handling on my part. There was also the typical local trial problem of crappy weather... it started off windy and chilly, then it got windy and HOT, then the clouds rolled in and the wind got even worse. I could see the thunderstorm coming when I looked out over the horizon and as I was getting Payton out of his crate for his last run thunder started roaring. So there was a small issue of running the puppies in foul weather too.
Georgie did okay, she got her contacts, but she still likes to visit people. I made everybody laugh when she was visiting the timer and scribe in standard and I yelled "GEORGIE, THEY DON'T LIKE YOU" at her to get her to come back to me. =P I'm hoping as she continues to build value for the game itself and people continue to NOT pat her or anything on the course that will sort itself out. There are worse problems to have.
Payton was a wild man in JWW, almost got blown off the teeter in his standard run which is kind of ridiculous considering he's almost twice the size of Georgie and she was okay (Auggie has been blown off the dog walk and almost blown off the a-frame at this trial.) But the big news is he GOT ALL HIS CONTACTS. I was so proud I found a Go Dog toy at TJ Maxx later that day for cheap and I bought it for him. =P His a-frame was nice and his dog walk was really super. He actually USED HIS BRAIN it was amazing.

Ocean CRUSHED it in NADAC agility this past Saturday...and Q'ed in 5 out of 5 classes!! It was my best agility day ever with any dog. He Q'ed in Open Jumpers, Novice Touch and Go, Novice Regular, Novice Weavers, and got his Open Tunnelers title (and now can play in Elite Tunnelers with the "grown ups!")
OMG....he and I were so on as a team and his Open Jumpers run was beautiful...and 5.73 yards per second. He was flying! I keep forgetting he's only 2...OMG, he's ONLY 2! (Lars was a 2 months away from 3 when he set foot for the very first time into an agility show ring.) I am so excited about where he and I might go with agility.

I bought a long tunnel so that I can work on them with Diesel, he is fine with straight, but a bend and he freaks out and wants to go over the damned thing.

Alright, so here's the PAD NQ from last night.
I was still very happy with her. A lot of it was my fault in the handling. I had to pick a course that avoided the teeter because she's not ready for that. Then the way the distance section was laid out I wanted her to do it as "jump A-frame" and not the other way around because I wasn't sure she could do it the other way around. Anyway, it made for an awkward lead up to the distance section. Then she just got distracted for a second coming out of the tunnel and missed the jump which made her line to the weaves all awkward. It's all little fixable stuff.
And her weaves are dynamite at home. And funnily enough they were great on this exact same set of weave poles at the trial on Thursday... but not yesterday. lol. Oh well.

Congratulations! What a great start to a career for you guys!
:rofl1: Part of the reason I love doing things like leash running is that you get to hear all the funny things people say to their dogs on course and (even better) on the start line. The best reaction I ever got was when Meg took a flying leap over the dog walk contact, and the next obstacle was the table. While she was in the down, I said something along the lines of "Seriously? 100 years old and you can't even touch the yellow a LITTLE?!". The judge was laughing while counting.

Wild At Heart
Harleigh's first time trying weaves since being back at agility (at least that I recall, lol) and she totally did 6 poles perfectly without any gates or anything And it wasn't just a fluke either because she did it a total of 4 times! YAY!
Also, she had the most beautiful run last night and of course we didn't get it on video. She did 9 obstacles in a row and even had absolute perfect stop/sit on the table! Usually she flies off of that, but not last night

Kili is supposed to have her first full weekend trial this weekend... and now I think she might be coming into season. Sigh. I thought she looked a little puffy yesterday at lunch but wasn't sure if it was my imagination. This morning I'm pretty much convinced though I guess we'll have to see what happens over the next day or two since I could possibly still be wrong. No blood, no change in behaviour.
And of course, from the way premiums read... I thought that if you pulled a dog for coming into season that your entry fees would be refunded... but I guess that's not the case. Gah!
And I KNEW she might be coming in at any time in the next few months so I've been entering things at the last minute. I only entered her for this trial the day before it closed. Not sure how those of you with intact bitches do this. I was going to let her be until 4... now I'm thinking I may just spay her after this heat. Grrrrrr!

Which trial? If you contact the secretary and explain you should get your fees refunded. It's pretty common practice, even if it's not stated on the premium. Hell, if somehow it says they WON'T be refunded, contact the secretary anyway.
