****, now I'm all nervous about breeders lol.
I emailed a GSP/GWP breeder last night asking about some of their personality differences between them. I won't be getting one for a long time but i think a good breeder is an amazing resource point if their helpful. They can do so much good for their breed.

The rudest ones I've met were BYBs . . . . the absolute rudest, snottiest ONE was a byb White GSD breeder (guess that's a bit redundant, though, lol). Oh, and SHE approached ME to tell me how badly bred my BLOODHOUND (Kharma) was . . . lmfao.

Im not a "breeder" however, when I did have the one litter, I started out nice..........That was until I realized how many uneducated, stupid and ignorant people there were out there about my breed. When the phone calls came pouring in about the pups, calling the American bulldogs, and wanting to know how big they were gonna be, or choosey on the colors, and telling me they wanted shipped in a hurry to make first heat, or talking with such bad english/grammar, it made me realize, the only, mostly only people who wanted my dogs were either bybs, fighters, or someone whom it just wasn't gonna work out with down the line.

Tee-hee, that's why I kept most of the litter and turned down thousands to give a couple to closest kin!

In my search for the perfect Toller breeder, I ran into many who were high-and-mighty, just as RD described.
Ok now I'm wondering who it was you ended up going with.... being from Alberta too and knowing of a few toller breeders...

I found the same thing with Border Collies, looking for a local breeder. Most were very high and mighty and wouldn't sell to me until I'd gotten another border elsewhere and proven I could enter a sheep trial. The one I went with did health clearances and is a very nice person, and had no problem with me wanting an agility dog. She has since talked to a lot of breeders and explained that someone looking for a sport dog would be a fine choice as a home vs. someone in the country.

But sad to say the breeders do trash each other, and a lot don't answer the phone unless they have a pup to sell. So the education doesn't happen and those people go to the BYB...

I guess my only experience with a breeder who many would have considered rude, was many years back when I called a breeder about Tibetan Mastiffs. I told her why I was calling, and first thing out of her mouth was "I don't want to be rude, but do you know anything about large dogs?" I replied that I had just had a St. Bernard die at the age of 10 from a heart condition. Her response was "Okay, do you know anything about more aggressive dog breeds?" I replied that at that moment, I had a Rottie and a Dobie. Finally, she said, "Okay, I'll talk to you, sorry about all the questions, but you wouldn't believe how many Terrier owners or lab owners call me, wanting a pup then get upset because I won't sell them one." We talked for a few hours after that, and it finally came down to me not being able to afford 5 digits for a puppy, which she fully understood, but kept talking anyway.

At first, she was the rudest person I'd ever talked to, but in the end, I realized that it's her time and that people who think T.M.'s are big teddy bears, who are wasting HER time.

Actually, I did also talk to a Fila breeder who wanted references as to what kind of dogs I've had before he'd talk to me, but once again, it's not a dog for everyone, and why should they waste their time talking to people for hours, when that person can't have one in their center city Manhatten apartment, as a lapdog?

Both of these breeders said that if I hadn't answered the way I did, they would have politely told me to go buy a book on the breed, and they'd be happy to answer any questions I had about what I read in the book if I was seriously interested, but both of them said they would never sell to anyone who isn't familiar with large breed, aggressive dogs, and to me, that's not rudeness, it's protecting your pups, and protecting their new owners.
