TV has only been in my life for about 50 years . I've seen Liquor ads baned , and tobacco ads baned . Great both were for what the Gov.thought was a problem . Now obesity is our #1 concern . Should fast food ads be baned ?

Fast food adds where there when I was a child, and rarely did you see a child that was obese. I don't think that is the problem.

I think it has a lot to do with our lifestyle now. Too much being on the computer(and I mean parents too), playing video games, watching tv, not enough good outside play time. Also, with the lives we live these days, both parents working, single parents, it becomes difficult for most to set out a healthy diet with the kids, much easier on the tired mom or dad to just pick up something at a fast food restaurant.

As a kid I only got fast food once in a blue moon, now days I hear of some kids having it 4 to 5 times a week.

People just need to adjust the portions. I have a double hamburger with cheese quite often but I don't have fries and a coke with that. If Hy and I grab a burger I may get two pies, one for her and one for me. We don't have soda at all unless someone has a stomach ache and then a coke does help. If we do get a small fry we split it.

No fries unless they are made in the oven at home and candy on a rare occasion.

LIke i wrote in another thread it is too much of anything that gets us in trouble.

What bothers me is we took off 5 pounds when school ended and it went right back on when school started. Activity level being basically the same. IF i could afford to pack her lunch i would.

I have just recently eliminated fast food from my diet and lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks. Now I am all the way down to my prepregnancy weight. I was eating fast food 6 or more times a week. It WAS my comfort food. 44% of dogs in the US are obese. So not only are we feeding ourselves too much but we are feeding our animals too much as well. I met a woman the other month who had a lab that was so fat, he had rolls on his tail, he was 200 pounds. A LAB. Sadly, he suddenly died not too long ago. Infuriating.

I think its a combination of things, like previously mentioned. When I was younger, we played outside until it started getting dark and then came in. We used to check in every so often. Now days, I wouldn't let my kids play outside, unattended (in my neighborhood anyway). Its just not safe.

But I'm with Squishy... I cut fast food before and lost a good ammount of weight. (hhmmm... think I need to do that again, lol)

Brattina, I know what you mean about kids playing outside - they don't. Our neighborhood is filled with lots of children with play sets in their backyards which get dusted off when it rains. They go to school and go home to watch tv or play video games. I remember coming home from school and going outside to play with my friends until it was dinner time.

We don't eat out as much either first due to money being tight and second because of all the salt, bad oils, etc. that is used. The only sad thing is that to eat healthy isn't cheap. I can't believe how much fruits and veggies can cost (changes weekly).

Grammy, I do agree that all the fast food ads on tv do is convince children and some adults that it's good for you.
