the difference is, you probably still have your hand and it functions after the Pom attack. That probably wouldn't be the case if a PB grabbed your head, and you would probably be typing on your keyboard with nubs....
So pitts should be banned because they're bigger than a pom and can do more dammage? I've NEVER been attacked by a pitt, I HAVE been attacked by a pom. So why should I want to ban pitts and not poms??

What if I approached you with this...

Smokey looks to be a LOT bigger than a pom. She looks like she could do some dammage if she wanted to. I think you should have her destroyed. I want you to destroy your dog because I think she's big enough to hurt me.

Now does that sound fair and reasonable?? No? Why not? Mixed breed dogs of that size have bitten people many times and will again. Just because you've never seen it on the six o-clock news doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Ptts have attacked people, so have dogs like Smokey. If it is fair to say that Pitts should be banned because they are capable of hurting people, then it is also fair to say dogs like yours should also be banned because they are also capable of hurting people.

Or how about this, more people are killed in this country every year by CARS than guns, knives, bombs, and animals all put together. If you have a drivers license you are one of the most dangerous people in the world. Surrender your license and turn your vehicle over to the state to be scrapped. Does that sound reasonable? No you say? You're a safe driver? All the death and carnage is caused by bad drivers? Well guess what dude, there are a LOT of safe pitt owners out there. And there are a LOT more bad drivers than there are bad pitt owners.

Bottom line is that many Pits are D/A because that has been passed down via their breeding. Just like hounds like to track, and pointers like to hunt and herding dogs like to herd, Pitts like to attack....... You can talk and talk and talk, but many Pitts have that knee jerk reaction to other dogs. I know it, otherr dog owners know it, the victims and the dogs that have been attacked know it, the press knows it and a good portion of the public knows it. Boarding places know it because they ask if you have a PB, and if so, they won't accept your dog for boarding. All the denial in the world doesn't change this .

Coupled with this, is that this breed does a horrendous amount of damage to it's victim due to it's strength, which makes it a first choice for people like drug dealers and gang memebers to acquire. It is like an accident waiting to happen. I am not talking about bans now, what I am talking about is I am getting sick and tired of having to adjust my life and where I walk my dog, because these potentially lethal weapons are walking around streets and parks where people are just trying to walk their dogs in peace. That really ****** me off!!!!!!

So now we're generalizing...

ANY DOG HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A LEATHAL WEAPON....

Did you know that GSD mixes are near or if not on the top of the fatal dog attacks list....

Lets get rid of all of them too...

You still don't get it (and I thought you were close)....you are not changing your life because of the breed, you are changing your life because of the owners (recall the idiot woman). There are a host of breeds more dangerous than pit bulls because they are DA and HA not to mention much bigger. (Rotts, Akitas, GSDs, just a mention a few)

Gang bangers choose pit bulls because the are smaller and more forgiving of abuse than other breeds. If Gang Bangers tried the same &#%@ with other larger HA breeds they would get torn up.

Ok so lets just ban all dogs larger then 40lbs then how does that sound, then everyone can be safe, heck lets ban all dogs after all poms have been known to kill unattended children, but hey wait that would be...the parent's fault or the dogs fault.....hm....deffiently the dogs fault after all we alll know how vicious they can be....turn on you in a second.....let's ban them alll....thats an excellent idea!

I can't participate in this thread anymore it really pains me to see my favourite breed being bashed by ignorant dog owners, I always had a belief that at least dog owners even if they didn't own pitties would understand how ANY dog can attack a person or another dog when ill properly brought up and poorly socalized, I suppose that was naive of me, my bad. Let the world ban pitties, so the same illresponsible owners can turn to rotties, then lets ban rotties so those same morons can turn to GSD's, so then lets ban GSD's, so they can turn mastiffs, let's let the cycle repeat and repeat and repeat and each time let ignorance and intolerance win until in the end only small breeds are left legal to own, then let's see where everyone stands on the BSL debate.

WHAT ABOUT the tons of other breeds that are known to be very dog aggressive?

You seem to be stuck on Pit Bulls in every single thread that brings this up. I guess all other breeds are godsends compared to them?
I've listed the other well-known dog aggressive breeds before, probably more than once. It seems unfair that they were just thrown to the side, because of whatever reason.

Well now, it's not really fair to equate the pit bull's dog aggression with other breeds' dog aggression. (Note that I'm talking about the breeds as a whole, not individual dogs. Some individual dogs of any breed will not show that breed's predispositions.)

Most dog aggressive dogs were not bred specifically for dog aggressiveness. Typically they will start trouble, but once one dog gains the upper hand, the other will submit and the victor will stop attacking. Pit bulls were not only selectively bred for intense dog aggressiveness, but bred to keep on attacking until the other dog was severely injured, possibly dead and bred to persevere in the face of pain.

Comparing a pit's dog aggressiveness to, for example, a "scrappy" rat-catching terrier is like comparing the pulling of a sled-bred Alaskan husky to that of a labrador who likes to pull on his leash. Both of them pull, but put them both in the harness and see which one has more drive!

Don't get me wrong, I think pit bulls are a fine breed, with the right owners. But to suggest their level of dog aggression is equal to that of other dog aggressive breeds is foolish and will just lead to trouble if people start bringing them to dog parks because "there was a doberman there last week, so my pit bull should be able to go too."

But it's still dog aggression isn't it? And Bob seems to think that dog aggression is no different than human aggression. At least, that's what every single post I've read from him has come off as. So that would lead anyone to come to the conclusion that all dog aggressive dogs are bound to bite a human sooner or later, so to avoid that, all breeds known for dog aggression should be banned.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've bltantly seen this poster say that they think dog aggression is the same as human aggression, or leads to human aggression. Which is bogus, but, it's worth picking up on when reading, and then addressing.

Speaking of sad. I just saw a pit bull wandering around an area dragging his leash. There were a few people on the street staring at him and he looked really lost. He was jumping up on an empty store front door window looking for somebody, and just kind of confused. Nobody on the street wanted to get near him and he really looked like he wanted to find mom or dad or somebody.
Did he find his way home?? Poor dog...

Pit Bulls are not the only breed bred to fight or to kill. There are lots of other breeds that will kill other dogs. Do you honestly believe when an Akita attacks your dog they will do less damage than a Pit Bull? I don't have anything against Akitas I am just using a breed that can be DA and is a lot bigger than a Pit Bull.

I have explained this before, but it seems like it is very difficult for some people to get a grip on, so I will try it once more. Let's say a person is walking their dog and a D/A dog(s) like I ran into yesterday, attacks their dog. The person at that point has 2 options. They can stand there and watch their pet get ripped to shreds, or they can try and protect their pet by doing anything they can to stop the attack including trying to do some major harm to the attacking dog.

Now does anyone with more than half a brain honestly think that at that point, the attacking dog is just going to keep going after the dog he is trying to kill and ignore the dog owner that is trying to kill him? Come on, get real, at that point the dog is going to bite both his intended victim and the dog owner fighting to save his dog. This has happened over and over in PB attacks. It has happened twice in the county where I live in the last 5 months or so, that I know about.

Gang bangers chose a PB because they can get one for around $150-$200.

The problem with PB's is that they are all over the place, at least where I live. You go into the inner city and you see them all the time, many times 2 of them to an owner.

It is amazing that people can read what you just posted, and after reading it , will have seemed to understood almost none of it....

Two totally different things.
If it's true.... dog aggression and human aggression are one and the same ... there would be no such thing as a domesticated dog.

Two points, since this is a perennial complaint in this debate:

1) In practical terms, dog aggression does lead to human aggression. Put a hand into a dog fight and it'll get bit, we all know that. And we all know that when your dog is being attacked, you're not going to just stand there protecting your hands. A dog-aggressive dog is much more likely to bite a human than a dog who isn't dog-aggressive, just because he's more likely to be in a fight.

2) There are many cases of serious dog maulings and killings in which the human victim had their dog with them. This suggests that there is a link between dog-aggression and human-aggression. The case that springs to mind is the Virginia killing of Dorothy Sullivan, who was mauled to death with her dog by three pit bulls.

Dog aggression= human aggression...........yes a connection sometimes. During a dog attack?? I would say always..... whether it's a chiuaua verses a pomeranian, stick your hand in=get bit.
That has nothing to do with a breed, just nature.
If you were angry enough to start swinging and someone got in the way (instead of the intended victim) they are probably going to get hit, plain and simple.
The question is would you keep swinging until the mistaken party no longer gets up?

Now, about leaving a child alone with a dog. While it is true that you shouldn't leave any child alone with any dog, the usual concern is that the child could hurt or provoke the dog and get bitten.
If your concern is the child could provoke the dog and get mauled or killed...........should you even have that dog around people at all, let alone children???????? WHATEVER THE BREED!

A healthy, normal, WELL BRED, and WELL RAISED dog would not do this!
The problem with most of the "pit bulls" is you can't find a WELL BRED dog because of the Back yard breeders that sell them a dime a dozen in the papers!
