    Sudden fear of loud noises

Thanks all! She is such a sweetie it is hard to see her freaking out like that. I ordered her a Thunder Shirt from Amazon and am hoping it will help her.

    Sudden fear of loud noises

We adopted Grace, a Miniature Schnauzer, about 3 years ago. The shelter thought she was about 3 years old. I thought it was great that she had no reaction to thunderstorms as our previous dog was terrified of them. All of a sudden, this year she is afraid of thunder, the noise of fireworks and...

    Jackson, the Killer

Oh Vey is right! Our Schnauzer, Grace goes after snakes. Luckily, all we seem to have are garter snakes. We had Westies previously and they would make short work of the snake and would dispatch before you knew what was happening. Grace, however, doesnt have their skills. She basically just beats...

    Grace surprised me!

Grace is our Minature Schnauzer we adopted about 3 years ago. I had her out for a walk yesterday, on leash, and the neighbor and his Pom were out so I immediately changed our route to be walking away from them. The Pom is a male and very aggressive. He and Grace met before, while on neutral...

    Difference in clippers- Wow!

I even think the cut was so much smoother. She doesnt have little cow licks standing up in places on her back like she did with the cheaper Andis Clippers.

    Difference in clippers- Wow!

I originally purchased the Andis Easy Clip when I first started grooming our MInature Schnauzer, Grace. They were mid price range and did a decent job. Now that I am sure I will be doing the grooming myself I decided to purchase another Andis, at a higher price range. I got the Andis AGC 2...

    Best Toys/Chews/Treats at Petsmart?

Grace, loves the Himalayan Chews. They are make out of Yak milk and are baked hard so they last her a long time. Next to that her favorite is a Bully Stick.

Does your dog have a nemesis?

Yes, Tizzie, a Dorkie. Tizzie lives across the street but had been in Arizona with her owners when we adopted Grace. Well, on their return from Arizona Tizzie was sniffing around our yard not realizing that Grace, our new dog, was watching her from inside our fence . Grace barked and Tizzie...

Are we all just 'irresponsible owners'?

I am loving this thread! I feel so much less intimidated now. I feed my dog kibble I have a dog door She rides loose in the back seat I use Pet Correct (canned air) if she alert barks to long ( I was majorally raked over the coals for that on another...

    If a strange dog attacks

I carry Pet Correct in my pocket. It is basically canned air & dogs do not like the sound of it. As backup, if Pet Correct didn't work, I have a small pepper spray cannister attached to the leash. I have used the sound aversion (Pet Correct) with success in stopping a dog approaching us but...

Apparently I'm a Bad Dog Mom....

I use a water additive. Several companies make them- Arm & Hammer, Nylabone etc. It goes in with her fresh water every morning. I have also read that dogs that are fed a grain free diet arent as likely to have a plaque problem as carbs are one of the culprits in the accumulation of plaque.

    Westies

We have owned 2 Westies, the most recent one having passed away at the age of 13 about 3 yrs ago. We now have a Schnauzer we adopted from our local shelter. I love Terriers and I love Westies. They can be stubborn and high energy but once they figure out that you are more stubborn than them and...

    HELP....cairn/jack mix?

Cute little guy. Personally I love Terriers. We have had Westies in the past and we now have a Schnauzer. I love their "spit n vinegar ". That being said they are highly intelligent and can be trained easily as soon as they learn you are more stubborn than they are.

The Lost Dogs (Book about Michael Vick dogs)

Yes, I wish it had been a little less factual and more personnal. More about the dogs and less about the politics involved. I found it hard to read at times as to the treatment of the dogs but I am glad I read it. I dont know how you can call youself a human being and do such heartless things to...

Do people think your dog is pooping?

I worry about that also. I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone and I am afraid someone will think I am being irresponsible when Grace squats because they think it is something that should be cleaned up instead of pee. I know it is silly but I want to be sure to set a good example...

What is my dog breed? (Terrier & ??)

What a good looking dog. He could seriously be in the movies. He's got that personality filled face. Definitely terrier and something else with long legs! LOL.

Could she have been a Mother?

Thanks all. She has been for 2 yearly exams since we adopted her & the Vet has always given her a clean bill of health. I guess she is just different in structure than our other dogs. I intend to do everything in my power to insure a long healthy life for her. She is such a Sweetheart.
