I think you people were very rude to Mr. Richling and he had only one welcoming post from a member.
Actually, I think all things considered, we were very tolerant and polite.........when you take things into relativity. I mean.....how polite would most people be if they saw someone hitting a human being that they loved (like most of us love dogs) with a stick or grabbing them by the neck and pulling them upward by it? Dogs have feelings, physical and emotional too.

I don't think what I said is a joke, Jessie. It's the truth. And untill you people wise up ... children will be mauled and killed .. if you think that is a joke ... your either too young to know better or a fool.
Ill open the same invitation to you as I did to Mr Richling.

Come to Alaska, we'll go fishing' Ill show you the areas I love. Then you can access my dogs.

If you hit them I shoot you, fair warning.

Well, one things for dam sure...I'm not young, so I must be a fool. :D sign: Even though I've had scads of dogs steadily for almost 1/2 century and never had a child mauling in all that time. And I never laid a hand on a dog. Gee, it must have been sheer luck, I guess. :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7ViqgeaEQk&NR=1 This video is really interesting, isn't it? He really has a way with dogs.
Whats your point? The dog is in a high drive mode, on a bite, they want it to out, it doesn't do it, they use a correction to get it to out. Some people don't use a switch like that, they might crank on it with a corrective collar or use other methods that are adversive in nature to get it out of the high drive mode and listen to the handler. This is not your average house pet they are working with there. I think that is what a lot of people are missing when they question this method of training.

Here's a good watch for you ... check out the 3rd run ... watch how the dog is that serious with himself he bites the owner/handler.

The situation was corrected as you can see with no hard feelings.

That is a "hard" dog. And when I say "hard" dog I mean a dog that can take a correction, then come right back up in drive, (not crestfallen), not so much a dog that is difficult or hyper like most ya'll are saying. JMO of course.

JMO those are trained dogs, nowhere I saw the handlers resort to using sticks or "staves" to controll the dogs. Only once did I see a handler swat the dog to get its attention.

Try again (Edit!!)MellisaCato.

I don't know if those are "hard" dogs or not. You can't tell that from a video. The one that turned around and grabbed his handler would, I think, be classified as the canine equivalent of a human adrenaline junkie. There's a big difference. I've had both. And I THOUGHT I'd had hard dogs until I got Buffy, lol! Now she taught me what a truly hard dog is. Made me doubly sure I got Kharma out and socialized!

This is what everyone is missing in this thread. Your average housepet does not need to be trained with these methods. THAT is what everyone is getting so riled up about. Dogs with an tendency towards being constantly over-amped, which is a trait well-suited to military/police dogs, *might* do just fine when being constantly manhandled like this, whatever. But the majority of dogs, on both this board and in real life, are not suited to this type of punishment and do respond negatively. Now if all you're looking for in a dog is a push-button robot that never thinks for itself, then yes, go seek out trainers like Richling. You'll have a dog that will jump on a hot grill when you tell it to, but you will also miss out on the spontaneous behavior that makes owning dogs so rewarding. There is such a difference that it's impossible to write about it, because everyone thinks "Oh, my dog does that now."

IliamnasQuest would be a good person to point towards this thread.

These dogs go home to families Zoom, kids, cats, horses, birds, betterhalfs etc. These dogs are very well trained ... I can't say that for all K9's though because that surely isn't true. Ask any K9LEO and just see what they tell you. You will have a better respect for dogs and training if you do.

I need to act on my siggy quote. And gut some fishes. Darn it.

No Im being serious. You hate liberals to want to train your dog to attack tehm on sight, you are even more closed minded then I am, and you use the same attacks liberals use on conservatives. So I ask again, are you Carl Rove.
Blue, I dunno what's in your pipe... but you are out there! You totally BS'ed again what eva you see fit. GodSpeed!!
