I am originally from outside of Spruce Grove, AB. Was raised on a farm there. Look it up. Its about 15 minutes outside of Edmonton. Smaller, quieter and just has a more family, friendly feel to it. Plus its nicer. But Edmonton has the river valley, which is beautiful. When we visit we bring the mountain bikes and bike through there.
I loved living there, but if you want to be closer to the mountains move to Calgary. You can see the mountains from the outskirts of Calgary. And well Canmore, which is a beautiful mountain town is outside of Calgary. Also if you havent already, learn how to ski or snowboard. Edmonton has Jasper, Marmot Basin. Calgary has a few ski mountains, Lake louise, Sunshine, Castle Mountain and if you wanted to go into BC there is Fernie.
I live in BC now, but I find that Albertan's move at a faster pace. They are always in a rush. Especially when driving so be prepared for that. Also the south side of Calgary is about 2 1/2 hours from BC.
Ha ha and ladies if you want to see Redneck. Move to a small BC mining town. Its a heck more redneck then any AB town I have ever seen ha ha. Don't move to BC if you are looking for jobs as we have none, unless you want to work for a mine. Edmonton is booming so I find there are tons of jobs there.
GOOD LUCK!!! Make this adventure of yours fun and be excited!!
