Do you go to either of them? We go every year...to both :rofl1:, although this may be our last year for Calgary it's just gotten way too big now.
Yep! I usually go to the Comic Expo every year but I didn't get tickets in time for this year. It really is getting huge, I guess with the "geek culture" getting popular. I've been to the Taboo show a couple of times, but I haven't been to Otafest in awhile. I've kinda simmered out on anime.

We have always done VIP, we only managed to get VIP for Friday and Sunday for Calgary in April though, we did remember to get a weekend pass for the boy this year though, we didn't last year and had to get one at three times the price after a kijiji bidding war :rofl1:.

After this year we are thinking of looking into some of the cons in the states though, dragoncon and emerald city both look fun. The only problem is that I will have to make costumes that travel easier :yikes:.

I worry about moving and hating it and missing Ontario. I don't know anyone there, it's colder than it is here, my only family (my mom) is here even though we've had a turbulent last couple of years. I've never been to Alberta. I'm sure I'll love the mountains and the outdoors part but I don't know how it is there culturally etc. It's a lot of work to move our whole lives out there and then if I don't like it... we have to pick up all our stuff and move back again?

On the flip side we might love it. We have to move anyway because we are not too thrilled with our current location. The BF would make quite a bit more out west. The trades are really quite underpaid here and Alberta is short on skilled workers. I don't think it makes much of a difference to my salary. I expect to make a little more to compensate for the increased cost of living of course, but nothing major like BF would get.

I totally understand that, it's a long assed way to move, to somewhere you have never been, that's scary. I would like people to try is all. Many people come to fort mcmurray believing all the crap they hear and read and then never even try to see anything good. But at least try, that's all.

Wages are higher here, and skilled labour is very much in demand, depending on your husbands trade but pretty much all are sought after lmao. I can't comment on Edmonton wages, I only know here, and here is way different.

St. Albert = Justine Davenport. One of the most popular and sought after agility trainers in N.A right now.
Ha, that's pretty cool but I bet there's a price tag that comes along. We don't need world team level trainers (though funnily enough, today I learned that our trainer WAS a world team member years ago!).

Love that Justine also has a dog named Summit!

The Edmonton area has an abundance of good dog trainers and indoor training locations so you can play all (cold) winter long!

I just moved to Grande Prairie, AB from Sudbury, ON in August. I absolutely love it here, but I kind of moved from one redneck city to another, even more redneck city, lol. I do really really miss my dog training friends from home though, but Grande Prairie doesn't have anywhere near the dog training opportunities that Edmonton does.

By indoor you mean... actually indoor? Not a horse arena? Heated? For dogs? That would be heaven if such a thing exists.

And we are very much trying not to move from one hick town to another. That's a main reason we want to move. And it's just that much harder when we don't know Alberta or what towns are good. We're relying on my BF's brother who lives there to navigate us through the surrounding Edmonton area.

Medicine Hat is where I am, though I have lived in Lethbridge, Calgary, Cardston and several other small towns. Medicine Hat though I like the best. It has everything a medium sized city needs, with the awesome people. I found out of all the places I have resided Medicine Hat is the best. But they do not have much in the way of dog activities sadly. But the scenery, dog runs, friendly and helpful people and so on make up for that. I have never been to Edmonton so can't advise you there. Personally I am not a prairie girl. I prefer the ocean and forests. But I do love the city I have made my home this past 5yrs.

Yep! It's funny because most rig wives that move here hate it and want to go back east, to BC, etc, but I sooooo love it. I guess deep down I've always been a redneck, lol.
I'll be going to gp this summer, probably more then once, but in the spring possibly to pick up some furniture from my uncles place we should maybe meet up! I'll have the dogs :lol-sign:

I am originally from outside of Spruce Grove, AB. Was raised on a farm there. Look it up. Its about 15 minutes outside of Edmonton. Smaller, quieter and just has a more family, friendly feel to it. Plus its nicer. But Edmonton has the river valley, which is beautiful. When we visit we bring the mountain bikes and bike through there.

I loved living there, but if you want to be closer to the mountains move to Calgary. You can see the mountains from the outskirts of Calgary. And well Canmore, which is a beautiful mountain town is outside of Calgary. Also if you havent already, learn how to ski or snowboard. Edmonton has Jasper, Marmot Basin. Calgary has a few ski mountains, Lake louise, Sunshine, Castle Mountain and if you wanted to go into BC there is Fernie.

I live in BC now, but I find that Albertan's move at a faster pace. They are always in a rush. Especially when driving so be prepared for that. Also the south side of Calgary is about 2 1/2 hours from BC.

Ha ha and ladies if you want to see Redneck. Move to a small BC mining town. Its a heck more redneck then any AB town I have ever seen ha ha. Don't move to BC if you are looking for jobs as we have none, unless you want to work for a mine. Edmonton is booming so I find there are tons of jobs there.

GOOD LUCK!!! Make this adventure of yours fun and be excited!!

Born and raised in Toronto. NO ONE can be in more of a rush on the road than Torontonians. At least I hope not. ha ha.

I'm starting to get excited about the idea of moving there. I think it's pretty much a done deal because I have to tell my boss in the new year to give him enough time to find a new vet and also because I need him as a reference before I start sending out resumes.

I'm just afraid of the cold. I hate cold. I am cold ALL the time.

I'm excited for the mountains. I'd rather move to Calgary to be closer to the mountains, but brother in law is in Fort Sask so Calgary is too far... at least for the initial move.

Wherever we end up it must have a GOOD gym (I miss that so much being in this darn hick town I'm in), must have places to walk the dogs off leash, must have a good dog sport community, must have a half decent mall or be <30 minutes from one because it sucks to drive 45-60 min just to go to the mall to go Christmas shopping or the pet store or dinner or whatever.

West Edmonton maaaaalllll, I hope I'm not the only one with that horrible 80s commercial stuck in my head :rofl1:.

But seriously no got to south gate or king sway for shopping.

Dog stuff you will find a lot less of over here unfortunately, but closer to Edmonton or Calgary there is quite a bit.

Edmonton is COLD. So cold it hurts to breathe. If i was forced to live in Alberta again, it would be no farther north than Calgary. Lived for 19 years in different areas of Edmonton and the older I got - the length of winter just became too much. Snow in August? Edmonton is great for those who love, love, love winter.

Calgary is a vibrant, clean city with smaller outlying communities within commuting distance. As someone mentioned, the mountains can be seen from Calgary and it's an hour drive compared to a 3 hour drive from Edmonton to Jasper. The difference in the two cities is worth checking out before making a big move.
