We've all heard people, or said it ourselves, this is "my breed" meaning their breed of passion, the one they obsess on and will always own.

It also interests me reading when people have a breed and have no intension of repeating the experience after their dog goes.

Do you think you've found it? Will you be getting another of the same breed? Why or Why not?

Do you prefer trying out many breeds instead or mixed breeds? Why?

Well... I def love Belgians. A lot. A lot a lot. LOL. I would like to always have at least one. Mals and Groens. Tervs I appreciate but they don't really appeal to me (purely visual), and Laeks are hard to obtain, coat care, etc...not so much.

Cardis I also love but they don't universally suit me as well as Belgians do, and the community surrounding Cardis does not appeal to me as much (very show heavy) though I am slowly finding who and what I want to be associated with in that breed. I would like to always have one as well, as long as it's the right kind of Cardi.

But there are lots of breeds I want to try. I'm definitely and for sure getting an English Cocker (field lines) someday. I love them and it will be an "easy" dog compared to my hot-blooded herders, though with substantial drive.

And there are lots of other breeds I'm interested in and want to try someday.

So I don't really know how to answer? :lol-sign:

I like my "type" of dog. What they call the breed I guess I don't care much. I do really like my Shepherds. I do like my type of shepherd more than most Mal's I've met, but I do get to work with some Mal's that are a bit more shepherd like and I really like them too. That's not to say I haven't met a ton of Shepherds that aren't at all what I like as well, because I have. As long as I can continue to get the dogs I like, I don't care what breed they are really, but I'll probably look at GSD's first.

If I was just looking for a companion and not a sport/companion, I really wouldn't care beyond and active dog with good temperament of any size really or color.

This made me tear up. Reason being, almost 2 years ago, I lost my heart dog, a pit bull. I swore, no more, they're hard on the heart cause you have to fight to own them almost. But, within a day, I knew, I couldn't be without one. I felt like part of me was missing, there was this huge void, more losing a dog, I lost a part of my core.

I will always own a pit bull as long as the laws allow me too. I will fight for that right till I die.

A pit bull is everything I love in a dog. More than that, I identify with them. Misunderstood is what they are and always will be.

I love my GSDs and like the balance that them and the Pit Bulls seem to have. I'd love to try other breeds but i will always own the breeds I have now.

I picked "I like variety" as I have had very different sorts of dogs - greyhound, rott/gsd, chesapeake, cockapoo, and now my trio... and really enjoyed them all for various reasons.

Moving forward I see myself with Alaskans because I like them and would like to continue joring, but even they are more of a type rather than a strict breed and have a lot of variety within the type... I mean, heck, technically Squash is an Alaskan but I don't expect to find another like him. So I probably will never find that ONE TRUE BREED.

I really like the papillons. The more I am around them, the more I just really really like them. I would have never in a million years chosen the breed for myself but luckily my parents decided to get Beau. They're funny and happy and so willing to work with me on pretty much anything I'm interested in. There's something so charming about such a little dog with such a big personality and so much heart. I don't know how you can live with as many papillons as I have and not loved them.

But... there's still something missing and I'm not quite sure what it is exactly. I enjoy a bigger dog too. One that is a little bit more versatile, and a little bit more difficult. There's a lot of breeds I like and I may cycle through them until I find 'the one'. Or I may just always have different breeds.

I think I will always have a papillon. I haven't really found a larger breed that captures everything I love about papillons and I don't know if I could live without that kind of a dog. I wish they came in a bigger size! If paps came in a bigger size, I may not have anything else. They're just so good.

Not yet. Most definitely looking! As darling as Gypsy is, I don't want such a high energy breed for a looong time.

I *think* I'm a sighthound girl, but we'll see.

I'm pretty sure I found it and I'm done :rofl1:
Only way I would really venture is if Merlin's breeder stopped breeding. I don't love aussies as much as I love HER aussies.

I just don't see myself going through the drama of trudging through breeders again or looking up 1000 different breeds and speaking to that many people about owning that breed and then finding a breeder and hoping I get along with them and like their dogs etc.. it's exhausting frankly and it wasn't what I consider to be a good time.

I am not the kind of person who thinks the "grass is greener" or who likes variety. Once I find something of quality that I like, I tend to stick with it.

I couldn't be happier with Merlin's temperament or his breeder soo.. why bother? lol

It took me 2 years to find the PERFECT pair of jeans and I have bought the same kind for about 5 years. Why not? The fit great, they last long, they look good and I like them! don't see the problem lol

If not an aussie (that perfectly selected pair of designer jeans), nextdog will likely be an adult rescue (a wonderful one of a kind goodwill find :rofl1: )

Its dobermans for me!

I loved our husky tawny but will never have another so I know that feeling.

I like a lot of the herding and working breeds though and while I think I will always have a dobe I am not limiting myself. We are a multi dog household!

Heck I don't even have one "group" much less one breed...

I adore FCRs, at least, my kind of FCR, but will probably never own *only* FCRs.

I adore certain BCs as well but again will likely never own *only* BCs.

And there are some terriers I like too...and I have nothing against owning mixes either (obviously).

I suspect I will always have a variety, even if I am mostly slanted one way or another. I really enjoy having both a herder and a retriever. It's a good combination for me.

ETA: I am sure everyone is totally shocked that I am not a one-breed person lol

I can see us always having GSP's but who's to say never to another dog in the future??

I have to say I am totally smitten though, and can't look at other dogs without thinking GSP's look nicer/better/prettier... So who knows.

No question about it, koolies.

Every breed I've had I've liked with the exception of one or two qualities. Borders I loved except their softness. Danes I loved except their health issues. There is nothing I would change about the koolie in general, they fit me to a T.

I voted "I prefer a variety" but in reality, I think all of "my" dogs will end up being some kind of sporting dog. I've only owned two dogs but I've been exposed to many and enjoyed many. I just really seem to mesh well with the sporting dog attitude and temperament. We'll see if anything leads me another direction in the future I guess.

Shelties are one I just waffle on. I loved mine but most I see I don't love so much. Too soft, too low key, timid, etc. Even among agility dogs there's just something missing for me. That said, I have a friend here that has the most kick ass shelties in the world who has offered to help on a pup search if I ever do decide to go with a sheltie again. I can definitely see myself taking her up on that one day as we both like the same things in dogs and her dogs are incredible. But without a 'mentor' like that to really guide me, that I can see the kind of dog she likes in person, I am not sure I'd get another. Luckily I have that option close by.

I can say, with absolute certainty, that corgis are NOT my breed. I really have no attachment to the breed, heck last week a corgi puppy came into the store and everyone was like OMG CORGI = LAUREN!!! And I was like, meh.

I can broaden that even more and say with certainty that herding breeds are NOT my kind of dog. Still adore looking at other people's pictures, and even hanging out with them, but I have no interest in ever owning one.

I feel like it is premature to say that JRTs and Terriers in general are my kind of dog, having owned Siri for only like 2 months, but seriously, I am so beyond in love with this dog. She is amazing and perfect, and...well, amazing and perfect! :p My coworkers all think I'm nuts when they meet her. They love her, but they're like " How do you live with that?" :lol-sign:
It's funny because I know that I eventually want a larger dog. I used to think about how I'd have some kind of retriever or just generic shelter mutt. Now I find myself thinking along the lines of "Someday when I have an Airedale or a KBT..."

And as long as Lynn keeps breeding, I will have an Ado terrier in my home.

An afterthought: The ONE downfall so far to the JRT breed that I have found is the JRTCA vs. everyone deal. Can't register Siri with any purebred dog registry, or you forfeit your JRTCA registration. So like, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to course Siri, I think she'd have an absolute blast, but I cannot register her any way with AKC if I still want to get her into JRTCA and do terrier games. Same goes for tracking. And that's a bummer, but at least I still have options with venues like APDT/CDSP for obedience, and NADAC/USDAA for agility.

German Shepherds - although I would love a really nice Mal as well I think.

The balance in the GSD I have now is everything I was hoping for when I got my Dutch Shepherd 4 years ago. That experience (with the DS), is what soured me on the breed and, by relationship, Mals as well. Now that I work with a ton of really awesome Mals, I can see myself getting one. However, the balance that I am looking for is at the core of both the Mals I adore and the GSD I love. So, the temperament/activity/quirks/drive/craziness just suits me. I do EVERYTHING with Kastle and imagine a Mal would be the same.

I also prefer to try other breeds but only in conjunction with owning a shepherd of some kind :) I LOVE my Cardi girls but Jason is much more in tune with them and adores their size, whereas I tend to get cranky with small dogs. Since he will most likely always own a Cardi, I don't have to ;) haha

Kelpies...I love my Limit but I will not buy from un-health tested parents ever again. *shrug* His temperament at this time is not what I was hoping for, but his personality is everything I wanted. He's not yet a year so his temperament may come around.

BCs, nope, I love handling Robin, and I'm enjoying him a lot but I will most likely not go that route again - or, if I do, not a sporter collie.

I would really like to try a Border Terrier, but that is another breed that Jason is obsessively in love with (Terriers in general), so I will probably just wait until he gets one and enjoy it peripherally.

I guess I am a shepherd girl with a hodge-podge of other breeds :)

I'm pretty darn hooked on ACD's and highly doubt I will stray from them. If I do, it will be for a Koolie.. and even then I don't know if that is a change I will ever make. The ONLY thing that is a turnoff to me about ACD's is the DR. But, there are downfalls to every breed.

Boxers are also a dog that will probably always own a spot on the couch. They are just hilarious and so full of personality.. A good change to the "lets get the job at hand done"-ness of the ACD. There are good chances for DR in them as well.. and health issues suck. Rescues are everywhere, though, so that is always cool.

As far as the Griffs go for Josh, I don't know yet if they are "his". I can see him going with a Vizsla over a Griffon in the future.

Don't forget about ASCA! We can do obed/rally/agility/tracking through them!

I chose "I prefer a variety and will likely never have a breed of passion."

Then I realized that you mean variety as in "I prefer having a variety of breeds" when I had thought you meant "I prefer a type of dog and not one breed."

So yeah. I really like shepherdy types but I'm not set on e.g. GSDs. I like them best of all the types of dogs I've met. I'd like to look into blackmouth curs, Rhodesian ridgebacks and curs in general, I've never met a cur but I think they sound good. Maybe they'll usurp the shepherds lol.

I also like molossers like dogos and presas (but I don't know if I'll ever have a good enough setup for them) and I like sighthounds.

I also like labs and friendly mixes. But probably to foster, not to own forever.

In short, I dont' have a breed.

I don't know.

I think I will always have an ACD. I don't know if I want more than one at a time. I would never have a GSD again, they aren't for me. I don't know that I'd choose another pointer, probably only in rescue, and then again I think I might choose something else before a pointer.

I'm certainly not opposed to mixed breeds, who can say what we will end up with as the years go on. Nothing goes according to plan.
