I've only had Ruthie for about 8 weeks and I am pretty sure that I will always have an Icelandic Sheepdog. Geeze, I kind of want a heard of them.

As for my doberman... I LOVE this breed. But I'm not entirely sure I"ll get another after Dreizehn passes, at least not soon after. There is something about this dog that screams "male" to me so, in my head, getting a female is out of the question. But they are male-male aggressive and while Dreizehn has yet to meet an enemy I HATE being always on my toes and watching out for it. So... I dunno.

This is hard for me to answer, but an interesting topic. It is wonderful to read everyone's opinion on certain breeds.

I wouldn't own another GSD. Casey is good, but I'm not a GSD person. I'm trying to say this without offending, but I have met probably 100 unstable GSDs. Casey herself was reactive when she was younger. Lots of health issues as well..

Ritzy kind of fell in my lap. I'm not opinionated on the Toy Fox Terrier thing, but she is a nice dog. If I decided I wanted a small dog again, it would likely be one of those nasty little chihuahuas hiding in the back of a kennel in a shelter. Ritzy definitely yaps and does the yapping run when she gets excited...not overly thrilled about that.

I don't know about another Pointer. It would have to be a special dog, from a rescue-type situation.

I will absolutely have more ACDs, actually I'm trying to decide if I want another ACD right now. I don't think I would be without one, but one might be just enough.

That said, I would keep all my current dogs for life if I could.

Another GSD is a possibility... I certainly want to own another shepherd, but I don't care what kind as long as the individual is what I like.

Border Collies - yes. There are things I don't love about Steve, but overall he is just so freaking much fun and such a sweet sweet dog.

Pit bulls - I'm not sure. The temperament is, for the most part, a good match for me, but the health issues, breeders, culture, legislation, and public attitude make them less appealing.

Border Collie - Yep. Honestly, I can't ever see myself without one or two of them laying around, ready to work anytime I so much as move.

Mini Aussie - Nerp. They're a great little dog, don't get me wrong, but they're not go-go-go enough for me.

German Shepherd - Hells yes. This is another breed I can't see myself without, or at least without being in the process of planning another. I had a span between Bella and Simi where I was without, but Simi was always kind of in the cards, and I really couldn't wait to have another. It felt wrong without a GSD.

Past Breeds:

Sheltie - Maybe. I think for that size, it'd have to be a special dog. I'm not going to look for one, but if the right one came my way, sure.

Great Dane - I think that when I slow down in life I'd like to have another Dane. Though I don't know if any others will ever come close to how great Sasha was.

This. Much to my husband's chagrin, it's probably Malinois from here on out.

I have a mutt, so DEFINITELY. I love mutts.

But looking at her mix...she's a BC/Golden Retriever mix and I LOVE the BC side of her so much. I plan for my next dog to be either a BC mix or a BC.

Another doberman?

If it were just about love, and/or loving the breed then I could say absolutely yes. Orson has some things I do not like, but overall, I love him dearly and admire many things about his breed. He isn't the first doberman I've ever had, but I'm thinking he will be the last.

As Kevin and I get older, our family is changing, our life is changing, and I don't think a doberman will be a good fit in the future. We are thinking a smaller breed of dog will fit our lifestyle a few years down the road. Easier to exercise, more space and travel friendly. So no, I will most likely NOT be owning another doberman.............one never knows though, the universe has a way of wrecking plans and smacking you when you use the word NEVER, LOL

Westies- oh hell yes, if I can find one thats not lack drive.

Pit bull- I am not too sure, Mitsu, who is a Pit bull mix, but has most of the Pit bull traits does not really mix well with me. But her and Tyler are like BFF's forever! She's like the perfect match for him

My dad was saying a year ago that he's never getting another dog, and if he does, it's going to be something like a great Dane--laid back, relaxed, slow, short lived.

I doubt I'll have a Greyhound and Lurcher again, unless its a very elderly one. Its the need they have to run, I constantly worry and scare myself that they will end up hurting themselves. It's from Maddy dying while running, I know that its unlikely to happen again, but I can't get over it. If Lucy runs, I just see Maddy dying.

Todd doesn't run much, if ever, now, at 12 years old, thats a good age for a hound to me. I'll own a hound if its older than 10 and doesn't need to run to be happy in life.

Hopefully nobody cares that I'm bringing this thread back up! I thought it would be interesting to see what some of the new members had to say, and how others have changed.

For myself:
Boxer- Definitely. I love their goofy selves. Sometimes, I think it is silly to have companion dogs, but then I see those huge lips. XD

ACD/BC (Or other ACD mix)- Depends. There are things I love about Rider, and there are things that irritate me to no end. I like that it makes the breed a touch more biddable, but with our dog numbers, I think I will stick with a purebred ACD.

Griffon- I don't know. Honestly, I have not been impressed with the breed AT ALL in drive or in hunting ability (not just from our rescue, but from other dogs we have seen).

Past dogs:
Dalmation/Pointer/Pittie- No. Driveless and unstable.

Labs- Please no. Just, no. Great for others, not for us.

Cocker Spaniel- Also a no.

Chihuahuas: Yes! I can't imagine living without them... I'd always like to have at least 2 or 3. I can't think of a more perfect breed for me.

Border Collies: Probably, although I'm interested in other breeds for our future "big dog."

Yup! There are a couple other breeds I've contemplated on trying, but I'd definitely get another ACD or Pit Bull!

Tollers, yes! For sure I will. I will be much more picky about my next one(s) and who/where it comes from, but I will definitely always have a Toller in my life.

Dobermans, maybe. It'd have to be just the right dog. I love them, but there are a few things about them that just aren't quite the right fit for what I want and need in a dog. If I do ever have another one, it'll be a long time from now.
My above answer still pretty much stands. The Doberman is a huuuuge maybe now though. Between the breed not being a great fit for me in a few ways (their type of energy, neediness, the fact that they're prone to SSA), I also seem to have nothing but trouble with my two lately. Among a couple of other things, both have a genetic skin condition, and now even though Ripley's thyroid tested ok, he's acting weird temperamentally as well and I can't tell if there is something wrong or if it's an "I'm four years old and maturing differently again" stage. So yeah, as much as I love them and my heart melts when I see one, I highly doubt I'll have another one.

And Tollers are the same as my previous answer. I definitely will always have one! But I think it will be just that: one at a time. I want my next one, while still easy to live with/good off switch, to be more drivey than Dance though. And friendlier/proper level of aloofness next time too of course. But everything else about Dance is perfect, so I hope I'm lucky enough to find another eventually that's similar to her.

And Aussies: Yes! A thousand times over. I can't believe not only how much I love Journey, but how much I've fallen for the breed as a whole. I'm already thinking that I'd like another in the next 5 years or so, maybe more, but I definitely want another. Another Journey relative specifically.

And I never did past breeds last time while others did. But no, I don't think I'd own any past breeds. I also never sought them out though so none were really 'me' anyway. I would jump at the chance for another Toller/Border Collie mix from an oops litter or something... but the chances of that happening are slim to none. And sometimes I think I'd like to have another Dalmatian, as ours was wonderful, but I don't know. Other past breeds we had were Rottweilers, Dachshunds, and a Bichon Frise... none of which I'd seek out again. The only breeds I really want to own are Aussies, Tollers and probably a Koolie or a hairy Belgian eventually.

Chihuahua mix? Absolutely. I've loved almost every one I've met!

Collie? Maybe. I think I'd like to own a Smooth one in the future. I grew up with a Rough Collie and he was the sweetest most gentle dog ever <3 He was a bit too slow moving for the dog sports I'd like to do though

My previous answer still stands :)

I would have another basenji and another shar pei.

I would also get another English Cocker or American Cocker if the right puppy/dog came along at the right time.

While I love collies and think they are wonderful dogs they are not for me and I will not add one to my household again.

Hmm!

Collie - maybe? I love Jasper with all my heart and he's been a really wonderful "first dog" during transitional parts of life, but he doesn't have the energy/drive that I'd like. As a hang out family dog, they are wonderful. So maybe later in life if that's what I was looking for?

ANCD - probably. I love a lot of things about Yarrow. There's still so much variety in the "breed", so if I was to get one again I'd look for a little more drive (again!) and confidence - wouldn't want to deal with Yarrow's level of shyness again.
