Dang! We'll have to meet up somewhere... I've always wanted to try archery (and then try it on horseback) and I could get you started in fencing (fun sport at any age! One of the women in the club started at age 65 with her grandson and she's still fencing at 76.)
There's a coach's joke about beginning fencing students:
Put a stick in the beginner's hand and have her face a wall, about 3 feet away. Stand behind her with a paper bag, blow it up and pop it when she least expects it. If the student jumps, shrieks and drops the stick - she's going to be a foil fencer; if the student jumps forward and hits the wall with the stick - she's going to be an epee fencer; if the student turns around and beats the cr*p out of you with the stick, she will be a sabre fencer. (I'm a sabre fencer and foil fencers always get annoyed at this joke. Lol!)
Well if I'm ever in your area I'm calling by :p. I'd LOVE to do archery from horseback at some point as well as fencing.

Maya, is I EVER need a cake for any reason it's coming from your hands. That last one looks unbelievably delicious... My mouth is watering.. what flavor is it?

that one, I am 99% posative was a marble cake.
I made that cake about a year ago... lol... and yes, it was delicious! orange slice candies for the fins, tail, and mouth and then the fumdrop candies for the eye and spots. I made this for my niece's 4th birthday. lol, I was lucky to get a picture of it becuase as soon as she saw it she stuck her finger right into it. haha :)

Maya--I love making different shaped cakes--have done it for a long time! As my kids (3) have grown up I have made cake of all shapes and themes from frogs, to star wars! I even made a portrait of my one son!! So fun, and they love it--each year they tell me what "type" of cake they want--then it is my challenge to make it!

Bax, how exactly do you make cakes of different shapes? I'm very ignorant of baking, but I thought you have to have pans.. so wouldn't you have to make a pan or cut up the cake? Maya.. you're making me drool more.. hehe.. I hardly ever get cake, so just looking at that one made me unbelievably hungry.

That woodwork is gorgeous!

Sis, is that second pic a mirror? The edging looks like something from the 30s?
Yup it's a mirror. At one point it was a free-standing mirror (you can see the nubbies on the sides) but I'm sure it was long ago. I'm willing to bet it was a recreation of a 30's mirror, but not that old as it was plastic. It was a cream color with some gold and green brushed on it. Though definitely not new, I'd say not super old either. I get most of my stuff from the flea market or the dollar and five dollar piles at the discount antique store.

yep---I make them out of different shapes---I'll see if I can find a photo of the one that started our family tradition--it's a hamburger cake! Made of two round pans (one chocolate--the hamburger, one white--bottom roll), then a bowl--makes the rounded top of the roll. Stack them, frost with different colors--add red for "ketchup", yellow for "mustard", green for "lettuce", etc...:lol-sign:

Don't laugh at me, but I still love collecting Beanie Babies. :)
Awwww... I forgot to mention my beans. I have a frightening amount of them. All my favorites are locked away, because the cats LOVE to play with them, especially carrying them around the house yowling at us. Not that it's not sweet, but, yeesh..

Bax.. :hail: :hail: Those cakes! AMAZING! That is sooo cool... maybe my mom and I can get creative this year! Your boxes are gorgeous, too.. I promised a friend I'd paint a box for her.. seeing those has brought it all back. I'll go dig up that picture tomorrow, I suddenly feel like painting.

haha.. Thanks :)

Actually today my niece's Grandmother (not my mom) threw Nevaeh (my niece) a pool party. Well, when we went to eat the cake (that she ordered from a bakery becuase she didnt want to impose on me) we found out that it what she ordered. She had ordered a marble cake but just got plain white and it wasnt very moist. they did good on the decorating, just the actual cake wasnt what she had expected. After that she kept saying " I should have gotten the cake from Jenny!!!"
I of course told her " Suzanne, don't ever hesitate to call me for a cake!"

I even had a very cute idea for a cake too! I would have made a "Princess Castle" Cake and then for the extra people I would have made round cakes and frosted them a solid color and put "Happy Birthday Nevaeh" in white writing and attached a curled ribbon to the end of it to make them look like Balloons!!! OHHH I want another little kid to have a birthday! But unfortunatly we are dont with little kid birthdays untill like, September.

thanks--I really enjoy trying to figure out how to make certain shapes--it's so fun to go to the store, and look at the candy, etc. to figure out what I can use for what piece on the cake. I have made SpongeBob, A computer, a cat, --oh lots of things! LOL!
