I got home and found Summer completely covered in poop. I let her out and she started having poo issues again and it's almost completely blood. So I called the vet and they can't see her until friday at the earliest. I called a couple more and no one can see her today at all.

I'm so used to the vet in OK where you call in and you are guaranteed to get in that day. There's always the E-vet I guess but it's very expensive. What would you do?

I'm torn on the e-vet thing. I've known them to make things 100X worse . . . but on the other hand sometimes they save the dog.

Have you looked around to see if there is anything she could possibly have gotten into? Is she lethargic? What color are her gums and eye membranes? Is her belly tender?

***hugevibes*** for Summer. I would also probably go to the e-vet....

Edit: Actually what Renee said first, then if there aren't any answers I'd go to the e-vet. Also (((hugs))) for you.

Would your vet turn you away if you just showed up? I'd try that. I hope everything is okay.

*vibes + prayers* :( Poor Summer!

I agree with Renee, but I also know I'd probably be rushing out the door because like Cali, I'm a huge worrier too!

I think I may try some more normal vets I've never been to, then call the e-vet.

I have been SO disappointed in the vet care here. My vet in Oklahoma is wonderful. If I would have called in, they'd have a way to see me in under 30 minutes.

^ That's how our vet is. She's great. When Chloe got attacked by those dogs, they saw her immediately. I love our vet so much, the whole staff is awesome.

Checking out other regular vets is a good plan. Also, the suggestion about just walking into your regular vet and seeing if they'll do something is a good idea. If not, you can always try another place, then.

I think that's a good plan, Lauren. I know the vet I've used here has always made time for an emergency visit in the past, but I'm afraid since we now have an e-vet office they're going to be less inclined to do that :(

EDIT: Lauren, do you think there is any chance she got snakebit? 48 hours or so is a long lag time, but venom seems to act differently on dogs.

Is it fresh blood or black stool-blood? If the former, it may be less severe - bleeding in the colon. Serious nonetheless, but black would indicate something mysterious going on internally.

I'm also torn on e-vet. x___x please keep us posted. Poor Summergirl.

OH NO!

If it was me I probably rush her right into the vet.

If they said they could not take her I would take her into the vet anyways and demand a vet see her.

I think that is insane that they can't see her until friday when it obviously could be something seriouse.

Keep us updated. I am sending some prayers and vibes to Summer.

Oh no Summer. Is there something you can get her to drink so she doesn't get too deyhrated? Loose stools are so worrisome in small animals anyway. *hugs*

Oh no! Sending good wishes to Summer.

This has happened before? What was the problem last time? I'd definitely try a few vets, if not, I would just fork out the money to go the e-vet. The thing is I know my dog has never had this problem and if she did I would be very very worried. However, if this has happened before and has happened frequently (sometimes dogs with IBS has occasional bloody poops) I would be less worried.

Please keep us updated.

Okay here's the long story. *warning - it's gross*

Came home and there was poop everywhere in the closet where I keep the dogs. They are both kenneled but it's a wire crate and she managed to somehow shoot it all over the walls and carpet. Anyways, so I was obviously concerned and took her outside. She went again outside and had really bright red blood all over her backside afterwards. So I called the vets immediately and none would see her. Got on here in a panic and then decided to call the e-vet. The lady at the e-vet told me to immediately take her in to the normal vet and said they shouldn't have told me to wait till friday because blood in the stools could be really bad. She said if I had trouble at the regular vet's to just bring her in the e-vet anyways.

So... we loaded up the car and took her to the vet. On the way there she started getting sick all in the car. I was in a rush so I didn't kennel her like usual and she basically had diarrhea all throughout my car and all over her leash. Then when we got there, I carried her in because I had no leash. I walk in, covered in diarrhea and holding a poop covered dog. The receptionist is on the phone, takes a look at me then keeps talking for several minutes. /annoyed/ She then hangs up and tells me they don't take emergencies. I told her I called the e-vet and they said to bring her into a normal vet's office. So they finally tell me to bring her back. I ask if they have anything to clean my car with and my dog with and they gave me towels but apparently they don't have any cleaning products? (I find hard to believe). So I cleaned out the car as best I could. It was terrible. They ran fecals on Summer and checked her over. She was super excited and happy and very obviously not lethargic. Basically everything checked out though and they think it's just some sort of colon irritation. Sent home with medicine.

Had to clean my car again, then clean the dog, then take a bath and do laundry for my clothes. I had to throw out everything in their kennel and throw away my nice lead and coupler since it was just soaked in crap. I was just supposed to head home to walk the dogs about an hour to take an essay break. 4 hours later... I still have to go back to the library to get some research done for my paper due tomorrow.

When I got home and let Mia out, she ran over and got a big drink of water then proceeded to puke it all up. Of course. It's been one of those days.

Whether or not I'd go to the e-vet would depend on what other symptoms were going on. How's her appetite? Her behavior? Is she hydrated? What color is the blood?

I've had dogs poop bright red blood from pancreatitis, food poisoning, giardia and stress. So that alone isn't sufficient reason for me to run to an evet.

Sending loads of vibes.
