When I was 3 or 4, I was bit on the lip by a lab. I had to be rushed to the ER for stitches, but it never made the news. This goes to show that ANY breed can bite... anything with TEETH has the ability to bite!

When I was in elementary school, there was a kid who was sent to the office more times than I can even remember for biting other students, even.

I've honestly never met a human aggressive bully breed of any type. I've met quite a few that could possibly lick you to death, though.

Mistakes happen.

Some people don't understand that leaving kids and dogs doesn't always work.

I feel for the family.

Till I hear they KNEW and STILL put the kid in that position, I feel for them.... You can't assume everyone knows.

And I know which board I am on, but dogs and humans go together hand in hand. You can't have a dog aspect without a human aspect.

A family member of mine got bitten very badly by a Pekingese as a child. A flat-muzzled, tiny dog sent him to the ER. Of course that didn't make the news. Had a "pit bull" done the exact same damage it probably would have been.
And I agree with Lilivati.

My moms pug has broken the skin on my arm pretty badly more than 3 different times. When her dog is in a bad mood or guarding her bone... everyone is afraid to even go near her. But its not a big deal, because shes a toy dog.:rolleyes:

There was a guy that told me that only pit bulls snap over and over at a time... more than just a single warning snap that other breeds do. Not true. Her pug jumped into the air 4 times trying to tear my hand and arm apart. At that point I had to kick her dog to get her off of me. THAT was NOT a simple warning snap.

As far as small dogs not doing damage goes . . . well, the Toy Fox Terrier my parents got me when I was not-quite-four bit my dad's fingers repeatedly when she was still a puppy - so small she could sit in his hand. He still has the scars on his fingers to this day . . .

Yeah shes still got the pug. Yes, her pug did go after Madison SEVERAL times. Lunging at her swing, jumping in the air to grab her feet when my mom was holding her, and being down right nasty. Surprisingly she did a huge turn around and now rolls over to have Madison pet her belly, but she will never ever be trusted.

Her dog also goes after my dogs every once in awhile. If her pug happens to get Reggins skin one of these days, its not gonna be a pretty sight.

I hope Reggin doesn't notice if the Pug grabs some skin . . . talk about drama - and Reggin doesn't deserve to be in the news! Especially for mauling a silly, snarky little dog who keeps asking for it.

And, like Grammy says . . . you're gonna have your hands full, watching the Pug when Madison starts crawling. Hopefully he never gets a chance to bite Madison, but if he does, you know how it's gonna go down: Pug bites Madison, Reggin mauls Pug, Reggin gets blamed for the whole thing, and no one will be listening when it's explained over and over that the Pug did it.

That could be easily prevented by some crating/rotating type of thing. You should never put your dog in the situation of having to defend himself like that. You know the situation... from the description it sounds like a ticking bomb... when the pug does this... this might follow as a consequence... why wait until it happens? I'd take action to prevent something from happening!

I really don't want to make this thread about her... but maybe I would think of making some changes... and living on my own. When you make your own money (which they do) you can make changes. We're not talking about a 15 year old teenager.

But hey, just my opinion and I know nobody asked for it :)

I think they are making plans to get moved, Jules ;)

I'm seeing more and more families consolidating households though, thanks to the woeful state of the economy now, and it doesn't look like it's going to improve anytime soon.

I know.. I know it's not easy- in these times- it just looks like an unsafe environment. But I am sure she's doing everything in her power to protect the baby and Reggin, so I am sure they are just fine :)

Yeah, I know what can happen. The scenario runs in my mind A LOT. I am VERY careful, because I do know what can happen. Baby and pug hurt... pit bull in the news. I am only inches away when Madison is on the floor. I intend to be right there next to her when she becomes more mobile, and the pug is around.

Her pug likes to eat her bones and guard her food in my mothers room... never in the other rooms, because shes afraid my dogs will steel her bone. Madison will NEVER be allowed in her room. Very dangerous.

I am not comfortable with my mom baby sitting either, because I know she thinks her dog is an angel. And the day I let her baby sit is the day that something very bad might happen. Even though we DO have baby gates... she doesn't like using them. Because her dog doesn't like them

MY dogs are crated when there is food around. They are crated when they have treats and bones. On the other hand... I CANNOT have control over what my mom does with her own dog. I've suggested crating and closing her up in a room when shes being pissy, but she never does. MY dogs have to be crated up when HER dog is being pissy. I do my part, she doesnt do her part.... I can only do so much.

I do understand your concern though!
