Just saw it on the news. Anyone else see it?
The pit bull ripped at a toddler's face and left this scar, but it's supposed to go away. Luckily there was no eye loss or anything severe and eventually it'll disappear. And it's undecided whether or not the pit bull will be put down.

This really makes me angry. With such a young kid, why would you have a pit bull? I can understand if the dog was there before the kid, but if not?
And then again, the kid was probably playing with the bull and irritating him and the dog got fed up. Do you seriously blame him? And now they're basically, what, killing him? And also the kid was left un-attended with the dog.

First off, what kind of parenting is this? Secondly, this whole situation is messed up from the very beginning. Any other inputs on this? (no offense to the parents whatsoever.)

ETA: This also just adds to the bad reputation pit bulls get when really they're great dogs and they don't deserve it.

Excuse me? Why would someone have a pit bull with small children? Pit bulls are one of the best breeds around children. Most of them love children. Its the owner and bybs who produce aggressive dogs. What are the details to the story? 9 times out of 10 the dog was in an abusive or neglectful home. ANY dog, regardless of breed, WILL lash out if they are mistreated and abused in some way. I blame the parents 100%

I have a 6 month old baby and a 15 month old male pit bull and he is AMAZING with her. I would NEVER get rid of him, because they are best friends!

Not saying ALL: this one though wasn't exactly friendly with children. Which is why I say, more agressive dogs of ANY breed with children is never a good mix. Different with you when you have such a brilliant pit bull that's friendly.

Yeah, but you said why would you have a pit bull with kids... as apposed to a golden, lab, or poodle? There are bad apples out of any breed. That was my point. ;)

The parents should have NEVER had a child around a dog that showed aggression. A dog who showed aggression wouldn't even be in my house let alone around my kids.

if you think pit bulls are great dogs you wouldnt have made the first comment.

I would let a number of Chaz Pits near a baby before I would let my dog Elle (a TOY POODLE) near that same baby. She is simply not reliable AT ALL near kids of any kind. Its the Individual dog NOT the breed.

Pit Bull or not that child should not have been around an aggressive dog. My question in all these situations is what were the parents thinking?

LOVE that pic!
clearly the baby is terrified, and the dog is going to snap any minute!

Why can't the news focus on WHERE THE PARENTS WERE, what they were doing, why this was allowed to happen? Neglect much?

They're not thinking. They are leaving a child alone with a dog. Worse, they are leaving a child alone with an aggressive dog. Even worse than that, they are leaving a TODDLER alone with an aggressive dog, since toddlers are almost guaranteed to annoy any living thing in their presence sooner or later. The only way in which the fact the dog was a pit bull is relavant is that its more bad press for a breed that doesnt' deserve it.

Well bred, well mannered pitties are great with children . . . they're patient, playful, and not likely to overreact to pain. People forget that in the 40s and 50s they were nicknamed "nanny dogs . . . "

Got a question: How do we know it was an aggressive bite and not playing that got too rough, or a dog that got startled? Seriously, if the dog had intended to really do damage it would have been a helluva lot worse. Even a small dog would do a lot more damage in a situation involving "aggression."

Bottom line is where were the parents? You DON'T leave a young child with a dog of ANY size.

Straight up, right now I'd NEVER let Tallulah around a little kid without having her on a short leash. Not because she's aggressive but because she is so crazy about kids that she totally loses control and it would be all too easy for her to get excited and hurt a little one completely by accident or scare the kid half to death. She goes right for the face . . . tongue going a mile a minute
