I also can add that anyone can open up a checking account and get a debit card as long as they have a valid passport I work for Citizens bank so I know that for a fact! They don't need a SS#............We open up checking accounts all the time with passports from Brasil, Haiti, China, etc. You get the idea.

There are all sorts of people here in the country - legally - who don't and aren't required to have U.S. Social Security numbers or driver's licenses.

I recently saw an advertisement for mortgages with no SS number required. Now how interesting is that? Who pays for the defaulted mortgage when the person disappears? And what kind of credit can a person have wih no SS number? How do they later sell a property without the IRS looking at captital gains? So while you and I had best have a really good credit rating to get a loan or a mortgage, others don't seem to have to have any credit at all.

Besides, banking is an international business . . . how chauvinistic is it of us to assume that anyone doing any banking business within our borders should have to have one of OUR government ID numbers?
