Woman who sold puppies on Internet sued by state
A Cloverdale woman who marketed puppies via the Internet faces a lawsuit filed by the Indiana attorney general seeking refunds for people who either never received puppies or got dogs that were sick and subsequently died.
Attorney General Steve Carter's office filed the suit Thursday against Tammy Gilchrist, also citing other names she used and various business names. Those include Tammy Workman, Tammy Killea, Sam Workman and Samantha Workman, and the businesses TEKS Kennel, AKA Kennel, Puppysrus and Affordable Pups.
The suit alleges that since October 2003, Gilchrist marketed puppies of various breeds, including miniature schnauzers, Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Yorkshire terriers and "puggles,'' a designer mixed breed, to people in states including New York, Florida, Pennsylvania and Montana. The attorney general estimates Gilchrist owes consumers and the state, for failing to have a kennel license, more than $65,000.
