Zoom you should meet Baron, he could change your mind. He's a bit to big but the only time I have hear him whine was when I had to leave him alone for a bit in a new place.

Yeah the pics are of early GSDs. I know Erich is from the 1920's of german show lines. I'm not 100% sure why they got so slope-y but I think it was so the dogs could get a really good flying trot. Also, from looking at a site, it says "The breed's founder decided that a more powerful dog was wanted, with a lower stationed, trotting structure that was not so massive as to detract from the dog's speed and agility."

The slope is the reason I have considered becoming a breeder. Just to try and get a dog that looks more like the true German Old Style GSD.

I don't really think Shiloh's look like GSDs other than in the face. There is Alaskan Malamute in there and its huge.

Angus would be a favorite of mine, as well. He's utterly amazing :hail:

CH Haunch is also a favorite of mine; not to mention the Matrix crew ;)
Angus is truly a remarkable looking dog. And yes, those Matrix dogs are very fine examples of the breed also.

Working line GSD's arent exagerated when it comes to slopes and angles. German Showlines are the worst when it comes to exxageration to me and roach backs.

Lately I've been seeing alot of nice American line shepherds. Their structure isnt my preffered look (with long muzzles, small heads, and longer bodies) but I have seen an improvement.

I have noticed that all the gorgeous looking pitties are the tan red nosed ones. While a lot of the overly done ones are blue. I am thinking that it has to do with the bloodlines? Certain bloodlines have certain colors? Hmmm.

Well being an owner of an Alaskan Malamute,...................the lines that inspired me were Stormklouds and Kiekewabic in Canada.

Those lines are to me in my mind what the breed should represent and follow.

Wonderful conformation, fabulous heads and a great top line with wonderfully set tails. In England the Chayo lines are superb and have to their claim 3 gens Champion Certificates.

My Syler has these lines in him, and his sire was the first UK Mal to achieve Championship status,... and he is gonna be a stunner when fully grown.

I guess everyone has a particular type they are drawn to,...........but I must say that temprement is top on my priority.

When choosing my breeder I found that her lines come from Spain and have temprements to die for.

Having children this is a absolute must for me,.....but then it should be a must for anyone looking for their perfect dog also. Temprement is the only thing I wouldnt compromise on.

Color is not specific to bloodline.

It is a matter of genetics; a blue dog is the result of the dilute gene acting on a black coat and not necessarily the direct result of a certain bloodline. Most American bullies, especially Gottiline-bred dogs, are heavily inbred off of a particular dog, resulting in mostly recessive traits (Such as a blue coat).

And for the record,

Blue dogs can be built well ;)

Old Family Red Red-Nosed Pits have put out some spectacular dogs indeed! But you can find red red-nosed dogs in many many many lines, it doesnt automatically point to one specific bloodline.

And the over-done pits often sport blue coats because one of the most common outcrosses to create the extreme size is to the Neopolitan Mastiff. However, as has been proven in the above pic, just because a Pit is Blue does not automatically mean there is Neo bllod in there somewhere.

That makes sense. I know that not ALL blues are mixed. It just seems like a lot of the overly done ones are blue. I heard that breeders mix in catahoula blood to get merle and blue eyes. Which is wrong because its against the breed standard. I hate hearing about bybs mixing in different breeds.

Not all CataPits (Catahoula/Pit Bull) are from BYB. If they are outcrossing just for colour and eye pigment, then yes of course that is irresponsible. However it is not an uncommon outcross for pig hunters as catch dogs. No different than when they mix Pit Bull with greyhound or pit bull with great dane.
