Gamble, Kharma and Buffy's sire, was just IMPRESSIVE. Not just physically, but the charisma he radiated . . . .

I am very pleased that Kharma is shaping up to be very much her father's daughter!

These guys are what the breed should look like. Of course if you looking for acts of the dog I can't just pick one.
Is that the way a German Shepard is suppose to look? Because golly! I am smitten.

What happend to them? Is it better that they are the way they are now?

I love the GSD that look like those you posted Celtics.

Jennifer, most of the modern GSDs have very severely sloping rear ends and the standard is far larger than it was. At one time, the standard for a male GSD called for a dog between about 60-70 pounds!

I have loved the GSD breed all of my life, but I don't ever see myself buying a modern GSD from a breeder.

I guess it was just bad breeders that made it that way? Or did they just change over time with breeding and trends?

It's really sad to see such a beautiful dog like that change to what it is now.

Really? Maybe that's not the best pic but the couple I've seen in real life have been exactly what I remember GSD's looking like in my youth. Tall, nice straight backs, somewhat fuzzy :)
I'm no expert on GSDs though so you're probably right

I'm not an expert on GSDs either, lol!
From what I understand (which isn't much :lol-sign: ) the Shiloh's are GSDs mixed with Malamutes. They seem a lot bigger than the original GSDs and much hairier.
Maybe someone who knows more than me will be able to weigh in :)

I've run across a few just outstanding looking GSD's lately...the males of course are a bit too big, about 90 pounds instead of 70, but pretty well put together. I would love to meet just one GSD someday that makes me go "I want that dog." Sadly, I have yet to meet one of those...waaaay too whiney/clingy for my tastes.

I'm still trying to pick between Aussies...I'm incredibly partial to just about anything Las Rocosa produced, as well as Slash V, 45 Ranch and Hangin' Tree lines. Briarwood had some good dogs (Ch. Fieldmaster's Three Ring Circus) way back in the beginning, but they're such a show kennel now it's embarrassing.
