Chance has had a bacterial infection in his nose that will not go away. He has green tumors too. He shoots food and water out of his nose and aspirates all the time. He was put in the hospital a few days ago for IV antibiotics. He is acting like he feels okay for now, but just over night two large lumps appeared on both sides of his neck next to his jaw bone. they feel liquid feeling. The funny thing is, none of the two vets and the one university i am using know what is wrong with him.
one thinks its simply a foreign body that make soft tissue damage.
the other thinks its some rare paralysis
and one thinks its cancer.

the green tumors in his nose are so far back and his nose is SOO swollen that they cannot biopsy them.

What makes this hurt the most is that he still plays. his tail still wags, he has a great appetit and acts like nothing is wrong. that is until he takes a moment to sneeze out blood and puss, then he is lethargic for only a couple of minutes. and after that here he comes again bringing me a ball to throw.

sadly we think he will have to be put to sleep. That sounds unreal to me after just playing Frisbee with him an hour ago.

:(

It's hard when they still want to live. Maybe, just maybe, if he's still got all that fire left in him he can fight the illness?

I wish. I dont know, maybe i have lost hope. I have been through hell and back with this dog since i got him (Feb. the 7th)
He would need VERY extensive surgery no matter what it is. I have discussed that with the university. There is no way I can pay for it, and he probably will not live another year after the surgery. But still, they may be wrong about how long he would live afterward, since they dont even know what is wrong with him. Either way, how does someone get the finances to pay for such extreme medical care?

I am really heart broken. Its so hard to think of putting him down because his tail wags 22 hours a day (the other two hours he is having a fit) and he is sooo playful. But I dont want him to suffer for even a day.

Tuesday night when I came home he has his worst episode yet. He actually showed me he was in pain. His eyes glazed over, he stretched his neck out on the floor to help him breath (he aspirated on pus) and he was just whining. I think that was the most heart breaking thing i have ever went through. He was rushed to the vet after that. about 10 minutes before we got to the vet he was acting 100% fine. tail wagging and trying to play with the vet. You would had never thought that i though he wouldn't make it to the office. I bet my vet thinks i am crazy

Although it is hard for me to say this. I feel like it should had been done a month ago. I feel like I am toying with this poor dog. Weekly vet visits, never a day without strong high doses of antibiotics.... and he has his times when he feels awful. I know that he is hiding his pain. being a border collie, playing with a ball is alot more fun than acting like he feels bad...

my poor baby. Its just sooo hard

((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) There is no more heart wrenching, agonizing day to face. He will let you know when he is tired of this life and ready to move on.

Remember, we will be here for you, just like you are there for our Chance.

I'm so sorry to hear that Chance isn't getting better. = ( It's heart-wrenching to see our babies in pain, and it sounds like Chance is in a lot of pain. I know you'll do the best thing for him, whatever that is.

This how it was with Didi, She still wagged when I called her name, still eat fine, everything was good. But I know she was suffering on the inside. My sympathy goes out for you and Chance.

I'm so sorry you and he have had to go through this.

Minus the pus part, it sounds a lot like what my former boss' border collie went through. An MRI finally showed brain cancer that started in the back of one nasal passage, wrapped around her brain, and eventually started to fill the other nasal passage as well. The swelling in the muzzle and face, the bloody nose, the asperating fluid... all the same.
