Well if everyone thinks you shouldn't breed muts but should breed pure bred dogs then you are also in the wrong. Those breeding pure bred dogs are doing it for the purpose of profit. Plain and simple. If you would go out and buy a pure bred then you are in the wrong because you should have gone to the shelter and get a less fortunate homeless dog. And yone who would buy a pure bred dog and bash me for getting a mutt is a hypocrite.
The breeding of purebred dogs be responsible breeders is not about profit. If I never spent another cent on dogs and I sold 2 litters every year for 1,000 a puppy I'd never catch up.
Let me just recap the last several years:
Let's start with the van..... 17,000.00
2003 stud fee....................1,000
ER section...........................850
parvo treatment for 3 puppies at 10 weeks of age....3000
no surviving puppies.
purchase co-own on puppy in 2004.....800
Show puppy for a year.....average probably..... 3500
Health testing..................450
dog food, per month for 3 dogs for one year......2400
Vet care for one year..............................1500
Fencing over the years...............7000
crates, bowls, buckets, collars, leashes etc over the years.....2500
training classes and seminars for the past year............350
You do the math. Breeding dogs responsibly is an expensive HOBBY it is not a money making venture.
Those who make money breeding dogs are corner cutting pups for bucks breeders who are NOT going about in the right way, or for improvement.
Those of us who breed the right way for the right reasons spend buckets of cash, along with blood sweat and tears to put dogs out there who are excellent examples of their breed.
It's NOT about the money.
Not about that at all. Except how much we SPEND to do this.
