Unlike this thread, the new thread's purpose is to educate. We are asking questions, Martin Richling is answer as he sees fit. Most of us haven't experienced his training methods and to better understand the statements that you have made, I think we need to learn some more.
This sick sadistic animal abuser has NOTHING to teach anyone.

The problem I see with this whole thing is people just jumped on the words of a poster who joined the forum a few days ago, and took their word as the gospel. To me it was a trolling from the get go. If it had come from somone who had been around here for a while, that'd be different.

I didn't take the word of anybody - I was basing what I had to say on his "book", which sickened me. I don't disagree that adversives work, or that in some circumstances, such as police dog training, they might be the way to go. My problem is with a person who calls all trainers who use positive reinforcement "idiots, fools, thieves and liars". This guy is an arrogant, pompous ass who is not even willing to consider the idea that not all dogs need to be beaten with a stick in order to be trained.

How can what I wrote be anything other then the truth when Mr. Richling admitted to hitting dogs & using strong corrections with a prong coller?

I haven't received the book yet, I have to send an email. I want to see what it says myself.

I think I understand what Dan is saying. The working dogs he's talking about don't really make suitable pets. I don't think he's saying that they are "better", or that pets are "sub-par". He has pets himself. They are just different.
Exactly!!! :) They are in a class of their own. But it doesnt mean they are better than any other dogs, different is the word.

They're not that different. They're still of the canine species. ROFLOL!!! The laws of learning and canine behavior still apply. Swinging at dogs with sticks is not part of training. It's abuse. Let's get that straight and stop trying to make excuses and justify this appalling treatment of dogs. There are plenty of police dog trainers out there that do NOT do what was described in the OP. It doesn't matter anyhow what the result is or what it's purpose is. Abuse is abuse is abuse. Hitting, striking, hanging, gagging, yanking, lifting a dog up by his neck is abuse.

You people are one dangerous crowd of individuals, both for children and dog breeds.

I now see why dogs dominate children and think it's ok to maul them. **PUKE**

Then the adult blames it on unstable temperment. **double PUKE**

There seems to be a very, very poor understanding of positive reinforcement training. Just because we don't hit our dogs with any sort of object doesn't mean we let them maul people. I have one of the most well behaved dogs I've met in my life, and I don't have to lay a harsh hand on her.

I dont actually think it was a joke, maybe you could try answering it for us who dont understand where you're coming from? Is beating a dog the only way to stop it mauling a child or would you try something different?

I don't think what I said is a joke, Jessie. It's the truth. And untill you people wise up ... children will be mauled and killed .. if you think that is a joke ... your either too young to know better or a fool.
Wow... if you don't abuse your dog then they will maul your children

I always thought it was the other way around- abusing a dog CREATES aggression issues.

Thanks for showing me the light, oh wise one :hail: :hail:

Yeah, I'm sure that if Seamus had been beaten EVEN MORE before we got him then he wouldn't have the reactive biting issues that make him unadoptable to families with small children.

Soo my child should live in fear of my dogs huh? And all my friends dogs? Strange...they seem so well behaved.

scary she looks like she needs a good beating to settle her down..

So all those thousands of kids that have pet my dogs at events like the Royal Winter Fair, Sportsman Show, and the All About Pet Show, were in grave danger?

who would have thought this child was in such a dangerous position..they both look so happy don't they?
