I HATE when people are in stores with their yorkie-poo-tzu in a purse. How come MY dog isn't allowed in the store? What if I was carrying him around in a duffel bag. then would he be allowed??

This getup IMO isn't 'overdoing' it. The dog can still pee/poop and most dogs don't seem to mind if they don't mind clothes.

This getup I think the dog would not like and might not be for prolong uses, also a bit baggy for that dogs size

BB.....Well the clothes aren't superglued to skin, if they see the dog getting heated, they should take it off.

If a dog can not handle the physical exercise of a hike/walk, etc. then it shouldn't go with... OR... the walk/hike should be tailored so that the dog CAN go and not have to be put in some kind of purse or stroller.

I want my dogs to go with me to places, too. I love be around them. We only go on vacations that they can go to and we don't leave them at home for long periods of time. But, a "no pets" sign means NO PETS, regardless of whether they can fit in a purse or a stroller. I don't want any animal around the food I buy from the grocery store and I don't want some dog yapping away while I enjoy a meal out at a restaurant and I certainly don't want Fido at the movie theater, at the mall, etc., they simply do not belong in those places.

And as for the spiked collar and hypocrisy comment... rude. Since it was following my statement about "froo froo" dogs, I take it was directed at me. My dogs are treated like dogs. They have collars, sure, but they are not studded or spiked, they don't wear harley davidson jackets, bandanas around their heads or tutus around their would-be waist. They are DOGS. We respect them enough to treat them as such.

Disclaimer: If we were to live in a much colder climate Buddy would need to wear a sweater. He gets so cold. But that type of thing would be for his comfort and survival. I can understand things like that, putting on a cooling vest in the summer, putting on a sweater in the winter. The rest of it, no, I don't understand, but as long as the dog is treated well and still has its needs met, then rock on with your bad selves. ;)

Do they make a duffel bag big enough for Bella? :rofl1::rofl1:

Yes they should. And That was my point ;)

I do think that's overdoing it (I think those dogs look ridiculous honestly, but that's my opinion). What I mean by overdoing it is that, plus a bunch of kneclaces, hair ties, some fancy "shoes" etc etc. It's just, ew. >_<

I don't think it's inhumane and cruel at all, I just think it's truly rediculous. I mean, Americans go waay overboard with their dogs and don't understand the meaning of being the pack leader, I mean; they're dogs. You can love 'em, but some people go waay overboard. I don't think it's inhumane at all though, it is silly, though..

Clothes or not double coated breeds if the temperature is high, they're going to pant like crazy if the owner walks them late-morning/early-afternoon time.
But they are going to be hotter with the clothes. Why make them deal with that?

Seriously, when it is hot out go walk around in a t-shirt...then put another t-shirt on top of that and walk around. It does make a pretty big difference.

Juicy, let me first say that I absolutely LOVE your rants / vents. You make such good points usually!

I've been buying close out items from Petsmart for Bobsie for this Winter in Illinois. I have a couple of things for Doom, too. I'm afraid they're going to get too cold this winter... our first up in Illinois where there is snow and below zero temps (I'm stocking up on winter clothes for me too!!)
They don't wear clothes in the summer time, except Bobsie's Harness which looks like a shirt.
I don't see abuse in dressing your dog up as long as he / she doesn't mind / likes it. I DO see a lot of harm in purse carriers most of the time though. Usually when I see someone with a dog in the carrier, that dog is in the stupid thing 90% of the time. Our dogs don't even get kenneled very often, let alone carried around in a purse! My cousin has a friend who has a pom that she carries around in her purse. The poor thing can't even walk because it has NO muscle in its legs. Its been in that carrier most of its life, since she brought it home from the pet shop. Needless to say I can't stand this friend, and she doesn't listen to me. I don't even know how I'd go about fixing the problem if I could rescue her. :(

What if the person has both small and big dogs? I don't think its fair they should make two trips of hiking.

I get the 'no pets' thing............but if the place DOES allow it, then I see no problem with it. I understand movies, food places, ect....but malls?

You're trying out shoes, I doubt it you'll notice someone with dog in their purse browsing through.

But as for the whole 'respect' comment......I don't think they feel any different with clothes on, nor do they care or notice. I don't think they're beginging teased for it by other dogs. But unless someone on here knows dog code and tells me otherwise. For ll I know they still ct like dogs with them on, they don't go and walk on their hindlegs. Sme digging, leg lifting on hydrant dogs.

Pepe doesn't go hiding when I put clothes on him, but if I shave him, he goes uncovers and hides behind me on walks. So I think shaving him is 'disrespecting' him, because he shows he's embrassed by it, but he's never acted that way with dog clothes.

Not that I'm aware of. I'll make you one for the cost of the materials, though!!! LOL!! (I'd love to see Bella in a tote bag, even if only for a few seconds! That would be hilarious!)

Thanks.

IMO sometimes carriers are a great way to avoid children in some public places. If you have a leashed dog on the ground, any kid could come up to it and pet it without your permission. Which is most dog owners pet peeve.

Carriers in Petsmart outings and vet clinics are a good way to prevent embrassing '''potty opies'' that sometimes happen in places like that.

BC what your cousin's friend is doing is abuse :( ...thats misuse of carriers and that poor dog has to suffer because of it.

I know. I called someone about it, ASPCA, I think it was, this was a few years ago... they said there wasn't anything they could do about it. :(

I just tell kids that start to approach us, if I don't want the dogs messed with, that they bite, before they can even get near. Goodness knows they DON'T, but still. Kids that ask first (few and far between) are almost always allowed to pet them, just for being well mannered.

I can see a sweater on a small breed if it's cold ....and I dressed my Goldens for TDI visits to amuse those we visited . Otherwise I see no sense in outfits on dogs . I never played with dolls , but did have outfits for my big teddy bear . More power to you who spend more on dog clothes than I do for myself ! Whatever floats your boat !

What? If it was a dog that had no muscle mass tied outside on a short leash they would of done something...IMO same abuse, the dog gets no exercise and is limited. :(

Clothes on dogs are definitely not my thing, though Lucy does wear a sweater when it gets cold. (Millie also wears her SD vest and the occasional bandana.)
I like my dogs to look and live more like dogs.
Though it's not exactly my favorite thing to see, I don't really think dogs dressed up like humans is inhumane.

I think so too. It makes my blood boil just to think about it... I wish I could do "Operation Rescue Minnie" before I leave for Illinois. I totally would. I offered her $900 for her last year after I got my tax rebate and she said no. -_-

Personally, the only thing that TRULY sickens me is when people buy dogs primarily as a fashion accessory.... because, when the novelty wears off, or it goes out of style, or becomes too much work, or gets old, that fashion accessory becomes disposable.

Unless the dog physically cannot walk, because of some sort of handicap or age issue, I am simply creeped out by dogs being carried in baby slings and strollers. Little dogs do have legs! They can walk/run just fine and they are capable of being trained. : ) With most of the people I know who use these devices, the reasoning behind them is unhealthy. Either they do not feel like they need to even attempt to train their dogs to behave in public, or they think they're spoiling their dogs; they literally are "babies" to them, which is kind of disturbing, TBH. Dogs aren't babies, no matter the size. Dogs of any size enjoy exercise and activity, and I'm pretty sure any purse dog would much rather be free to walk on the ground, on-leash, and check out the world rather than sit in a pleather leopard print purse.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... be careful with your sweeping generalizations! :yikes:

Not that I'm aware of. I'll make you one for the cost of the materials, though!!! LOL!! (I'd love to see Bella in a tote bag, even if only for a few seconds! That would be hilarious!)

She'd never "talk" to me again, lol. I'd never do that to her. It's funny as a joke, but fails miserably in the prospect of reality. :p

What if the person has both small and big dogs? I don't think its fair they should make two trips of hiking.

I can't believe this is an argument, lol. There are occasions when I take just one of my dogs somewhere. Buddy got to go the marina the other day all by himself. But the other two get their individual attention as well. They don't need to go everywhere all the time. Careful considerations need to be taken as far as safety for all pets in all types of activities.

I get the 'no pets' thing............but if the place DOES allow it, then I see no problem with it. I understand movies, food places, ect....but malls? You're trying out shoes, I doubt it you'll notice someone with dog in their purse browsing through.

The last time I checked in my area, pets are not allowed in any stores except for pet stores. So, no, my dogs would never go to a mall.. even if they were allowed.. it's not a place for them. And if I'm trying on shoes, my dogs aren't getting any quality time with me. So why bring them?

But as for the whole 'respect' comment......I don't think they feel any different with clothes on, nor do they care or notice. I don't think they're beginging teased for it by other dogs. But unless someone on here knows dog code and tells me otherwise. For ll I know they still ct like dogs with them on, they don't go and walk on their hindlegs. Sme digging, leg lifting on hydrant dogs.

Yes, I'm quite sure all dogs are comfortable wearing pants and shirts and "bling".

Pepe doesn't go hiding when I put clothes on him, but if I shave him, he goes uncovers and hides behind me on walks. So I think shaving him is 'disrespecting' him, because he shows he's embrassed by it, but he's never acted that way with dog clothes.
My responses in red. ^
