Has anyone had experience with both?
I use the Zoom Groom on Charlie about once or twice a week, and get a ton of fur out of her short coat. But the house is still being overrun with fur. Would the furminator be a good investment?

Furminator didn't really do that much on Auggie except make his coat really staticy.
You might try a good slicker brush instead. I own a Zoom Groom but I only use it to work shampoo into a coat during a bath... not for any brushing.

The zoom groom, elbow grease and conditioner in the bath does wonders for getting the loose hair out.

Furminator is ok with limited use, otherwise it just shreds the coat. If you've ever curled ribbon, it's the best example - the ribbon is smooth when you get it, but the more you drag a blade across it the worse it gets. Same with your dog's hair with the furminator.

I have used both pretty extensively. THe grooming shop I managed is the creator of Shed-x and the furminator was created locally (by a competitor lol) We trialed them. They really dont deshed, they area blade on a stick so they cut and thin the hair.

What kind of coat would you be using it on? I love love LOVE the furminator on the Labs. It does wonders for Rose's coat. I would not, however, use it on anything else. Just dogs with coats like Labs/Rotties/etc. I suppose it would work on smooth coated dogs (Dalmation/Dobe/etc.), but so would a shedding blade.

I hate using a zoom groom for anything other than scrubbing a dog during a bath.

A good undercoat rake works just as well as a furminator, on more coat types.

Zoom Groom is the better investment, the furminator is very well known for causing bad burns on dogs while brushing and has been known to cut dogs open and it's also not meant for dogs with long coats like collies, shelties, etc. It's more for like Labs, Huskies, and GSD's. Not worth the money.

Furminator is defnitely not for anything with a double coat or long coat. The blade is too short, just cuts away the top coat and leaves the undercoat. "Huskies" and GSD included.

It barely, just barely, ever worked on my shorter haired dogs. Mostly I used it for cleaning up legs. Only place where the hair is short and thin enough for it to work.

I use an undercoat rake. Works the best for Knoxs pants. Then a shedding blade from the tack store/tractor supply on the rest of them and the rest of him. :p

Shampoo and heavy brush-out with a standard brush does wonders for Finn. I do that every few months and he has minimal shedding. June gets Furminated every few weeks, but mostly just use a regular slicker on her, too.

I strongly dislike the Furminator.

Pretty much only use my double row undercoat rake, does a great job on the fluffy butt girls and I was able to get most of the mats out of my parent's BC with it when I bathed and brushed him. I do also have a slicker brush, but its seriously fallen by the wayside of the rake. :)

If I had a shorter coated dog I'd buy a Zoom Groom for sure. :)

I think I will do a dry brushout with the zoom groom, then bathe her and zoom groom her wet. I'd take her to the dog wash and blow her out, but I'm pretty sure she'd freak.

Never had a problem cutting a coat. It pulls out under coat leaving the top. Rubber brushes don't seem to get as deep but I really like them on hounds.
