Did he really appear that threatening, or was he just being goofy?
I'm sorry, but yelling "freeze this is a stick up" to 10 six year old children is STUPID. My God, what was he thinking? And was he too stupid to know what a protective breed might do in the event of a situation in which the family was threatened? *shakes head*

He might as well have yelled, "Hey kids! The ponies are here!"
Not trying to pick on your Monkey :)p) but there is a difference in a screaming because your life is in danger and screaming because there are ponies at the party. You must not be around kids very much.

I myself do not know. But I do know this: if my dog mauled someone who wasn't robbing my home or threatening my life, I would have to euthanize her. It would rip my heart out, but I would know that my dog is no longer safe to be around.
Even a perceived threat? The dog had 10 six year olds running around him screaming in fear.... I'd say that was threatening.. the dog was protecting.

Euthanize the uncle, save the dog.

Aww, that's OK. I'm resiliant. ;)

It all comes down to how one envisions what must have happened, since the facts presented really don't paint a clear picture. For myself, the choice of language ("this is a stick up") suggests to me someone just goofing around, not a serious attempt to frighten anyone. But other folks may interpret it differently. Obviously none of us were there.

What we all can agree on is that the breeder and the owner clearly let the dog down, and that the uncle doesn't have much a career in comedy ahead of him. Sometimes people just suck. And it's the dog that'll pay the price. :(

What a horrible situation.

Due to the severity of the injuries, euthanisia is usually a given anyway if the 'mauling' was reported. Had it been a lower grad bite/release, there would be rehab. options.

It's just sad no matter how you look at it.:(

On the facts of the case.... I pretty much only know what I originally posted. Me and this neighbor only talk briefly because her female is barking and growling at me  as she is walking by my house.

I pretty much got the idea that the kids at the party didn't know it was a joke and were pretty freaked out. From the way she told the story the adults were in the house  .

little more back ground...I have never in my life seen a dog that was more aggressive toward humans than her female. If that dog ever gets loose I completely think someone will die. I have contacted the city and because the dog has never (yet) bitten anyone, there is nothing they can do.
