Wild boar

I know I've heard something about wild pig meat possibly carrying something, starts with a "T" I think but I can't remember. I also think I remember reading that you need to freeze the meat for "X" amount of days to make it safe for consumption. But, I can't really find anything that says anything for sure, so I was curious if anyone else feeds wild boar or wild boar bones to their dogs and if you do anything special beforehand.

Reason I'm asking...a friend of ours brings the dogs bones and stuff all the time from his hunting expeditions and today he brought over a boar backbone. I'm going to hack it up into sections and let the dogs nom nom it if it's safe.

It's in the freezer now. I'll leave it there until I figure out if it's safe or not.

At least boil and scrape off the meat and give them the broth .

You could always put it in the crock pot for 20 hours (or so) until even the bone is mush, then crush it all up into a paste for them.

To be honest, my dogs occasionally get a scrap here & there from a kill we've made. I do know all the risks, but I've never had a problem.

It depends on the size of the hog/boar as to what we do with the meat (the larger & older they are, the tougher the meat), but they will also get some cooked scraps especially when we do a couchon de lait.
