Even if no AC, if the dog is clearly ok and the person ran to a bank machine or something ..... And is right back... Leave it alone...

Please and thank you! Once I accidentally forgot to roll the windows down on a hot day... But I didn't realize til I was inside... I was gone for not even 5 minutes to pee and use the ATM and after I realized what I had done I was RUNNING... Got out there to a woman SCREAMING at me about how horrible I was, already calling the cops, while my dog was leaping around and barking, clearly in no distress at all... I said "goodbye" and made a mental note to double check my windows in the future and left. Still feel bad about my mistake, but my dog was physically fine... She's been hotter than that with the windows down honestly, because she's a turd and likes to sit in the back windshield where it's hottest I'm actually going to go looking for a battery operated dash fan today for her because my car is old and won't always let me in if I leave the keys in the ignition. I will always keep the windows down though, enough so she can get her head out but not her shoulders.

Oh no I totally agree and have considered a window sign. I am thinking something clever that explains working dog on board, ac running, windows up for your safety. For now though I'm just super careful to avoid the situation, honestly it stresses my boy out too much having people leer at or touch my car so it's better for him to avoid more often than not.

I think a sign would be almost necessary with dogs like mals. And if someone actually thought they were in distress and was stupid enough to bust a window with a mal in it... :yikes:

Grace and I have a Field workshop soon and apparently people work out of their cars (with appropriate precautions, including fans). I may still be the a-hole who runs the A/C. Kinda freaked out.

I would take precautions and plan not to use the AC no matter how hot it is honestly. You might very well in a trial or match setting get asked not to come back. Lot of trials we do everything from the car - doesn't mean your dog has to be in the car. I drive a sedan and put crates behind my car with blankets as shade, water buckets in crates. You can take extra water to use to wet a towel repeatedly like soak it to be in the crate to lay on.

If you do this more often you may want a shade cloth either the aluminet to drape over a car with a hatch or over a shade tent to keep it cooler and the other goodies people take, but for a one day or part day thing just use common sense while packing.

That must be a horrifying childhood memory We were so careful while on vacation last year to leave an adult with the car at all times as we had to take the dogs everywhere we went. So an adult would sit in the car with the hatch and doors open if hot, often by the trees at the edge of parking lots. I got asked more than once if I required help. It was nice, people seemed to care more because we had dogs with us.
