i have a golden retriever too- and both he (a pure breed) and my darling cockapoo are just as "equal" in the sense that they are both loving and beautiful.... and Honey is just as "pure" as any doggie out there
she actually cost alot more than our golden too... why is there so much contraversy? a dog is a dog is a dog... i happen to love the looks of cockapoos and that's why i paid so much for her... whether or not she is looked upon as being a "pure breed" is not my concern because it has become aparent that SOME people (not all) who own true "pure breeds" get offended when an adorable "crossbreed" becomes a popular breed... it's like they try to offend you by saying, "well your dog isnt a pure breed"... you know WHO CARES?!?! they're cute & obviously people like them just as much as "pure breeds" because they are very popular...
and back to the topic- people are breeding other breeds with poodles beacuse theya re hypo-alergenic....at least that's what i can gather...
no hard feelings people- i love ALL dogs... and cats for that matter
I'm sorry to say, but as soon as you mentioned that you paid more for your mixed breed dog and actually PURCHASED the dog from a breeder almonst made me throw up in my mouth a little...especially considering the fact that you can get the same mutt in a shelter for about 50 dollars around here.
First of all, and this has been repeated on this thread time and time again until no end: WE DO NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MIXED BREEDS. ALOT OF US OWN THEM AND LOVE THEM TO DEATH..I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MUTTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
it has nothing to do with LIKING the dogs...it has to do with the BREEDING of the mutts....irresponsible breeders mix dogs...responsible ones do not....end of story..
A responsible mutt breeder is an oxymoron. These dogs are not pure breeds - they have no standards/conformation, and no generations behind them (at least not enough to make it matter) to properly test genetics of the so called "breed"....they are fad dogs...bred for one purpose only...to make money...good breeders breed for the betterment of the breed...and actually end up losing money....sorry to say, but you got fooled big time when you bought your mutt...I don't even want to know about the parents...
Not to mention, there are literally thousands upon thousands of mixed breed dogs in shelters that are, yes, as good as your dog...why did you go buy one may I ask? Did this breeder even provide you with a contract or a health guarantee? Did they show you full health certificates? Do the parents have titles? Did they screen you? Were you allowed to meet the parents of the puppies?
I'm sure the answer to most of these questions is no, and therefore...it proves why people that breed mixed breeds need to get another fricken job and stop making our lives more difficult...
And some of you pro mutt breeding people might argue that well, there are also tons of purebred dogs in shelters too!....yes, and those are due to backyard breeders, not responsible ones...those dogs were not bred for confirmation, for purpose, for breed standards, for health, for temperament..they were bred for the same reasons that mutts are bred - for money.............otherwise, they would not end up in a shelter. Excellent local breeders can sue owners for over 10,000 dollars if their pup ends up in a shelter or is rehomed instead of bringing the puppy back to the breeder...they pretty much demand to stay in touch with you until your dog is dead...not to mention the fact that alot of them are involved in rescue themselves..this is what its all about folks, but unfortunately, these people are rare and hard to find...they do not need to advertise...their pups are sold through word of mouth and at shows.
So instead of buying a puppy, especially if its just for companionship and no specific purpose like herding, some kind of sport, hunting, etc...then go to your nearest shelter!!!
I'm gonna get off my soapbox now...phew.
