who ever it was that had mentioned getting a HIDA scan in another thread. I don't remember who it was, but I remember them saying that the HIDA test can scan for gallbladder issues.

I have had the whole gammut of tests run and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Had I not demanded that my doctor request a HIDA scan, I would have been diagnosed with IBS and not gallbladder disease. I go in this Friday for gallbladder removal surgery because this test showed that I indeed have issues and removal is the best option for me...

Glad you figured out what it was! I went to the doctor with pain in my abdomen, and at first he checked to see if my appendix was ok. When that turned out ok, they sent me to a gastroenterologist who ran a HIDA scan and found out I had gallbladder issues. I had the surgery, it went well and the recovery was pretty easy. I didn't really have much pain, the incision sites were just sore.

I had the most pain from the gas they pump in you when doing the surgery, it dissipates and rises into your shoulders and hurts like heck, like bad muscle cramps! They tell you to walk around and it does help relieve the pain a little, but I have a little secret - apply an ice pack to the area, it goes away and stays away! Good luck with your surgery, I hope it goes well!

Just about any food that I eat goes right through me (as in don't stray to far from the bathroom), nothing is safe, I get full really fast like after 5-6 bites of food, really bad gas, pain just under the lower rib on the rt side kinda like a muscle cramp, bloating, heart burn, acid reflux, nausea. It got to the point that I didn't want to go anywhere, because of these issues. I've had gallbladder attacks, kinda hard to explain if you've never had one, but kinda like some one is boaring (sp?) a hole through your abdomen, when they get really bad it goes radiates to your mid back and rt shoulder.

Sweet- thanks for the advice, I'm not really nervous about the incisions, I'm more concerned about the air they pump into. I have plenty of ice packs that I will have at the ready.

You're lucky they found it pretty easily. I've had 3 different doctors, 2 of them tried to me that it was all in my head, and that because I don't have gall stones, there was no way my gallbladder could be causing the issues. I had to fight with my last doctor about the HIDA scan. Turns out that it is my gallbladder and I have a pretty low ejection fraction rate. I now have a doctor and surgeon that actually listen to me. They took the time to explain my results in depth so that I understood exactly what was going on.

I'm so tired of dealing with these issues, it's been a little over 6mos. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Good for you! Gall bladder surgery is not such a big deal anymore. I don't say it's NOTHING, but really, any discomfort you have after surgery--and you may have none at all!--cannot compare even fractionally to the pain of a gall bladder attack!

I didn't have symptoms as bad as you, my issues were with greasy food/food with a high fat content. I understand what you mean about those gallbladder attacks, it was like somebody had a hold of my insides and was wringing them out like a wet towel! I still can't eat beef or pork, or very greasy foods even though I've had the surgery. My friend's husband, though, can eat anything now that he's had his out. Of course, I have bad acid reflux as well that I take Nexium for every day, so that's probably why.

They didn't find mine as "easy" as I made it sound, I went to my doctor for a while with stomach issues before they sent me to the gastroenterologist.

Sometimes, the digestive tract just sucks! lol
