All my Goldens had their chores.... Chip keeps my feet warm, wakes me up when I oversleep, is my door bell ,lets me know when there's a strange car on our street , tells me when it's 5 PM ( his supper time ), pre washes dishes, and carries in the morning paper and afternoon mail. Of course he guards the car when we shop !!

Mine are useful... honestly! They try to make sure that the house doesn't get too quiet, they make sure that the Christmas decorations get properly eaten, they make sure that the new furniture gets broken in by dog licks, they keep the floor clean (including the carpet which gets licked within an inch of its life) they unravel mommy's crocheted afghan blanket which happened to take 6 months to make, at 5 minutes for them to completely destroy (i was livid)

No, really.. Dakota opens and closes doors for me and turns lights on and off when he can reach them. He will retrieve any object on command, go on/under/to nearly any place in the house, and he can identify and find each person in the house by their name AND several close friends.

Ripley makes sure that I never go a day without a laugh, a lick on the nose and a tiny warm body sitting on my feet.

LOL we have a very useful dog here -- the guardian of the festive foodstuffs !!
We've got some 'party food' laid out for the afternoon, and of course the turkey for tomororw -and it is VERY safe with a most attentive guard!

Brenna is very useful too. She will wash the food off your face, warm up your seat for you, sit on yur lap and keep you campany, and best of all she seems to understand when you are going through a hard time.

My boys are my anti-depressant :D That, and they always let me know when the postman is at the door (or anyone for that matter), or when he leaves a package behind the door. And they prewash dishes too! As well as vacuum :D

My hubby has a "junkyard" dog. He is rott/pitbull mix. He is fenced outside and has axcess(sp?) to my husband garage where his 1972 chevelle ss is kept. Hubby fixed that way so Rufus would keep out prowlers.People are usually scared of him, because of his looks. Well I went out to feed himm one day and walked right through the garage(he never noticed) and out to his fenced area and low and behold there stood a man I had never seen before, petting Rufus throuhg the fence. He complimented on how beautiful Rufus was and told me he was a worker on the house next door. SOME GUARDDOG!!! Well needless to say we took out extra insurance on the car and put an alarm on the garage and car!!! MY hubby now calls him "Useless Rufus"!! Here's A pic of him.

I have a 1 year old maltese. Snowy is so tiny, but he thinks himself a big dog. When Barny, Melon and him meet new dogs, he is the first one to go and do the sniffing thing. He barks like crazy at strangers, and whenever the door bell rings ;p he is so funny with his naughty behavior. So I guess that he is useful.

My border collie is a barker too. Gotta admit that he is a great watch dog. People are always careful when passing by our house. He is a great companion when biking and roller blading -I don't move my legs when I roller blade with him coz he does all the pulling thing- Another useful dog.

Melon, WAs useful, but not anymore. She does nothing but to sleep, eat, go for short walks and nothing else. She's getting old I guess, but We love her like crazy.

Zeus looks cute and friendly :) I'm sure that he is a great useful dog.

I have 3 very useful dogs.

Harley makes sure that there is no food on the floor, and if there is he will get rid of it before you can say 'Potato Salad'!

Sam makes sure that there are no other human beings in the house except for me and Alicia and if there is she, well, I won't mention. ;)

Lemon makes sure that the cats are properly played with. They must be chased around the house at least twice per day.

Tank spent the first 5 years of his life being way over usefull, now he is retired and earned the right to be useless now and then. But he is good for some things
pre washing dishes
keeping the furry animals out of his yard
Is suprisingly a good guard dog (a Malamute watch dog? Whod'a thunk it)
keeps the carpet from being clean (hate for that to happen)
keeps the counters clean of anything he can chew on
eliminates any dropped food
Takes care of any extra food that may be in reach
Keep my back yard fertilized
Entertain's people at stop lights and Quicktrips
Scares drive up window people
Tank is usefull for all kinds of things but his number one top priority job:
Great me at the door when I come home from work every day with a howl and a wagging tail and no matter how crappy a day I had, makes it better.
