Does anybody have a deaf dog? If so what methods of training did you use? Clearly voice commands did not happen ;)

I have my first deaf dog, 4 months old, is good with sit and down so far, looking to get a vibrating collar for recalls.

There is a lady with a pack of deaf dals running AAC agility here. She has hand signals, and uses a flashlight as a clicker.

Thanks for the site! We actually have been touching him at odd times since we got him at 8 1/2 weeks. We touch him when he is sleeping, wake him up as well, we touch him when he eats, plays, chews on toys, goes pee and poo (lol I am sure I look odd when out on a walk doing it) we use touch as a very positive praise for him.

We tried to use the flashlight idea with the little red beamy light, yea that is now a "OMG THING TO CHASE!" same with a regular flashlight. I do flash the porch light on and off when its time to come in and I think he is starting to get it.

I have a hand signal for sit, down, and even eat and potty but could use more ideas, will check out the website! Thanks again!

If you have a fenced yard, I completely respect your giving Glacier space to run since most deaf dogs never get to go off leash. If you don't, be suuuuper careful. Great idea about flashing the porch light :) There is a member here, Cheza, who has two deaf Danes, you could try asking her how she trains them.

Oh I live in a community where we have 6 foot block walls surrounding out back yard lol. I will never let him offleash unless he becomes 100% recallable (is that even a word?! lol) with the V-collar. I plan on getting 20 ft leashes for him and my other dogs to play in the green belt

I dunno...sounds like your mutt is too crazy to train....stranger... ;):p
LOL Hey you! He is not a mutt:eek: how dare you! haha jk. It seems we have been on the right path with V-collars, lights, and hand signals.

Oh we worked on stay yesterday and he seemed to pick it up well! I tossed a couple treats off for the other 2 boys and he stayed! He got lots of treats for that.
