Top 3 breeds you'll want someday and why?

1. German Shepherds. They're literally my heart dogs; I've wanted one since I was little, and, unfortunately, I've yet to own a pure one, only mixes, but they've all been wonderful dogs. Many of the purebred German Shepherds I've met I have loved. They literally fit all my requirements regarding dogs that I can think of, they seem like a match made in heaven for me.

2. Dobermans. Although I'm a bit worried about health issues, I've met many dobermans I love, especially my friend's two dobies that are the most velcro dogs I've ever seen in my life. They are such sweeties to their owner and I just love seeing that. Also, they are stunning dogs in general.

3. Great Danes. I love their size, their sweetness, and their velcro-ness. Haha, I have a thing for velcro dogs; Anyways, the only thing I don't really like about Danes is their really short life span, but unfortunately that's a thing that comes with the size.

Also I want more mutts, like Crystal, but that's not really a breed.

1. Malinois this breed has definitely found their way to first place in my books, though it's not to say that I'm more of a Mal person now. I just find them easier and much more enjoyable overall, and I don't think I ever want to be without one. I'd be so bored or frustrated (which is not a knock on German Shepherds as a breed, but more a reflection of the type of German Shepherds I seem to gravitate towards). I'm also including Dutch Shepherds in this group because brown dog...stripey brown dog...eh.

2. German Shepherds of course. Trent and I have our fair share of disagreements but ultimately he's just a good dog (the worst good dog there is). Even through his neurosis he's still a steady, trustworthy, stable companion and guardian that I'll always feel safe with. There is something so incredibly rewarding and dependable about this breed, and what they give in return is worth the independence and the attitude and the hardness.

3. English Shepherd aka a Quinn (because I'm not making do with just any old English Shepherd). For something less extreme but still an honest and true worker, with intelligence and resilience and good instincts. I'd like to find one that possesses good nerves, the drive to work/perform (not at a competitive level necessarily), some guardian instinct, and confidence. Also clear sable in color and a pretty coat would be nice. So yeah, Charlotte just needs to give me Quinn...

1 - English Shepherd - Mine is awesome and all the ones I have met have been awesome. I like herder-brain energy, focus, and fuzz. English shepherds just seem to fit really well, though I think I did get lucky with my happy, bouncy, crazy boy.

2 - Silken Windhound - They're super cool, weekend warrior type dog.

3 - Frenchie - LOOK HOW CUTE THEY ARE!!! I NEED ONE OR TWO!!! SOMEONE GIVE ME ONE!

ACD - it would have to be the right one.

Mal - though I likely won't ever have one. I have admired them for a while now. The sound a lot like a large version of Dekka, which is simultaneously terrifying and exciting.

2. I can't believe I'm typing this, but I am really digging malinois lately. This is one that I'd definitely need to put a lot more thought/research into, but the more I look into them the more I like them. The handler sensitivity is the biggest thing that would be weird for me, but it's something I could adapt to; I would just have to work on faking happiness even when I'm frustrated haha. They seem to have similar energy to koolies, but with more bite (which doesn't bother me) and more guardy which, since I'll be living out in the middle of no where and probably home alone quite a bit at night, would make me feel safer, especially since futurekoolie and Finn will be useless in that regard. But like I said, big huge "if". Just entertaining the thought at the moment.

My experience with Onyx certainly hasn't been that she is handler sensitive, so I think you'll find that it depends on individual dogs for sure. I actually wouldn't mind if she was slightly more handler sensitive, it would make certain things much easier!

1) Long Haired Whippet. I don't think I could ever be without one now. It really bugs me that Glitch isn't from better lines because he is absolutely everything I wanted, and I would love to have more just like him.

2) BC. I love my sighthounds, but I would love to have a herder in there as well. Koolie is another consideration, but I would have to meet some in person before I could commit.

3) English Shepherd. Everything I've read about them fits, and the ones I've met in person have been great. The variability in size scares me a bit though. A small one would be perfect, a big one way too much.

And maaaybe another big wolfy sort of beast like Yarrow, although I'm not totally sure if I would undertake this again.

1. ACD or ASTCD because nothing really compares. They're just so awesome. (I have my part timers over for the weekend, so I'm currently lounging on my couch in a pile of cattledogs.)

2. Toy or mini poodle if it were the right one. I've just a few that were super zippy and absolutely horrible in all the right ways. Plus, rockstar hair.

3. Border collie or Koolie because it might be nice to have a herdy dog without all the biting. Or maybe just a well-bred cattledog with a decent temperament since nobody in my pile has genetics going for them.

1. Koolie. This will likely be my next dog, if I can wait long enough to get one. They really seem like the perfect breed. They have a smooth/short easy to maintain/wash and wear kind of coat, they are structured the way I want, light and agile, fast, smart, drivey both food and toy, with a little spunk. I like that all 5 I have met seem to like or at least be neutral to other people and dogs. My sport dog.

2. Malinois. I have admired this breed for awhile now. There is just something about their presence that puts me in awe. I love their intensity and work ethic. I like their enthusiasm for their work and doing anything. I think I would like the handler sensitivity as long as it isn't too sensitive. I love their smaller build and them being more agile. I like their wash and wear coat as well. I have admired IPO for several years as well and would like to get into the sport a bit. But I would also like to do things like agility, dock, disc?, and rally too. I have to admit I also like the idea of having a bigger dog that I will feel safer with if I am alone or should I want to choose to go for a walk at night or just anywhere alone.

3. Smooth coated border collie. (Or ACD/mix) can't believe I am writing BC. I have always imagined they would be too soft for me. Although now I have Chloe and I would consider her very sensitive and it isn't so bad, although I wish she was less.. And the more BCs I have met the less I think they are weirdly sensitive like I had imagined. They seem like easy dogs to title. Which might be nice but I also think I like having dogs with a little bit of a challenge. But it might be nice to have a dog I could rely on doing well in various sports.

I find it interesting so many people want Mals. The ones I have met are very impressive working dogs but I would only consider one if I didn't have ANY other dogs and could devote all my time to that dog. And only worked part time

1. Another boy BC. I always had girl BCs before Kep and I just love his happy goofy nature and he is such a mummy's boy too. He is serious when I ask him to do something and he tries so hard to do what I ask (Gael can be amazing but also tries to "interpret" what I ask). Also he is a perfect size for heelwork my girl BCs have all been much smaller.

2. Rottweiler. For when I want to do tracking and obedience type work and not agility.

3. Whippet. Love them, will have one of these days. Just for a pet. I will buy a lot of pretty collars and coats for them.

I won't count the breeds I've already own, which I'm definitely looking to own again, so I'll do this twice

1) JRT, far into the future. Milo has tons of qualities I adore, and I'd really like to own the breed the "right" way
2) APBT - I can really find my ideal dog in this breed
3) boxer - actually my #1, minus the health problems. They're like a slightly more guardy, less DA pit bull. Without the terrierness. We just mesh well.

Others I haven't owned, but would strongly consider:

1) neo mastiff. I don't know if one would ever fit with my lifestyle, so this may be an unrealistic dream, but if things pan out, I do love the breed.
2) Rhodesian ridgeback. I've loved the ones ive worked with.
3) Bernese mountain dog. Also really loved the ones I've worked with.

I think it comes down to being drawn to guardier breeds (rotties, dobies, Presas, etc) but they don't really fit my lifestyle.

I'm probably equally as likely to own a pug, Pomeranian, spaniel, aussie, etc in the future. Realistically it's probably going to come down to what dogs I meet via rescue when the time is right, rather than seeking out a breed.

So hard to list just 3!


- Jack or Parson Russell Terrier. I love everything about those whirlwind freaks. Small enough to be easy to travel with, active enough to be a running partner on the days Nola deems running with me a stupid activity. Adorable, smart, a terror. They're very similar in personality to Nola.

- Dalmatian. Gorgeous, smart, active, fair-ish size, and all the ones I've met have been lovely, stable dogs that weren't pushy with strangers and very handler focused.


- Chinese Crested (PP) OR English Shepherd. CC because puff! And smart! And puff! English Shepherd because the few I've met have had the good BC qualities of active, smart, and handler focused, without the shot nerves.

Also worth mentioning are ACDs, Smooth Fox Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, BC, French Bulldog (for no reason then I wanna smush the face), Rat Terrier, and Beauceron.

1) Plotts - I love them, and I'll stick to them. Raising a puppy (my first one!) has been a trip - she tugs and bites and "yells" a lot, but she's also super smart and really willing to engage with me. I love her so much already.

2) Patterdale - they're so horrid they're awesome this will have to wait until Bruce is gone, because part of me is afraid a Pat would kill my Pom...

3) Dobe - someday. I just really like everything about them. They look so scary, but they're so velcro-y and smooshy with their people. They'd go well with the Plotts.

Rottweiler: I would be super selective on the breeder. One of the greatest dogs I have ever owned was a Rottie. He raised my daughter and died at 15 years old. I will always have a soft spot for a big headed Rottie. I have had my old Rottie come visit me in the body of other Rottweilers at dog shows. He is still around and he keeps putting other Rotties in front of me to remind me that my heart still wants one. Twice over the past 3 years since he was gone I had Rotties at dogs shows drag their owners over to me for the dog to lean on me and sit on my feet and look up at me. Exactly how he used to. Both times the owners of the dog are apologizing to me for their dogs behavior and no idea why they suddenly took such an interest in me. I knew why, but I will not tell them.

Border Terrier or Norfolk terrier. Depends on what I am doing at the time. If I am still wanting working terriers with a bit less drive than my Parsons, then I will get a border. If I decide I want more of a pet terrier I will get a Norfolk. Or one of each.

Affenpinscher or Brussels Griffon. When I want something cute and wirey and monkey like with a ton of personality. That is when I am old and the terriers have all made me grey haired.

My next dog is going to be either a large mini poodle, or (more likely) a small or medium standard poodle. I dont think I will have another aussie / MAS after Lincoln, because I dont like all the politics, and I dont like where the MAS breed is going . Also, sadly, I have become allergic to Lincoln, him by himself is manageable, but two would definitely NOT be.

Chi and staffy for sure and beyond that there's quite a few that have caught my interest. I don't really have a set type, I don't think.
