Neither of my dogs have ever had a problem with ticks. I keep them on frontline regularly. I just pulled 7 ticks off Sancho and 9 off Tron. Most of them were in their ears. I hadn't noticed them before. We did go for a hike yesterday I wonder if they caught them there. Can dogs become immune to frontline? Any suggestions for keeping the ticks off of them?

Since I began feeding a prey model raw diet, I have not seen a tick on any of my dogs for 8 years. I live in a highly tick infested area. During the warm weather months I will often find as many as 2 a week on myself. I walk the dogs through the woods and by the swamp every day. I have found 2 ticks on me so far this year.

I also feed a prey model diet, but when I went hiking in a tick infested area, my dogs were covered. In my experience, the diet doesn't change all that much with ticks... I mean, wild dogs that eat live prey their whole lives get ticks too, right?

As far as my understanding (and don't quote me on this), Frontline kills ticks after they touch or bite your dog but takes 48 hours to do so. I suppose they could effectively bite your dog then simply die off after a couple days. I'd say avoid areas you know have ticks and check your dogs regularly after hikes.

Well I thought it was the hike, but I've been finding at least 5 a day on each of them since I first posted. So I'm assuming there in the yard. My husband and I also found 3 huge ones crawling around our bedroom floor. Any tips on getting rid of them? As far as the raw diet goes, I wish I could afford to do it but I'm out of work and doing the best I can with what I have:)

Based on my underestanding, Frontline doesn't prevent the ticks from latching on. It kills them after they latch on.

I live in Tick Central USA, so I've researched this quite a bit. The best solution I've found is to get my yard sprayed by a tick control company. The chemical is supposedly human and pet friendly, but I haven't found a tick on my dogs yet since the spraying (knock on wood). They spray 10 feet into the woods, the foundation of my house, the garden, and any nooks that ticks could be in. The spraying is done 4 times a year.

My backyard is also fenced in, so deer and other animals can't get in. And I cut my grass regularly to make sure it doesn't get too long.
