so steve's been kinda sorta lame on his right hind leg for over three weeks now. it's such a subtle lameness- i don't see it most of the time when he's moving. he doesn't bear weight equally behind sometimes when he's standing, and he holds it up going down the stairs (or bunny hops both feet down them).
i haven't been that successful at resting him. i've pulled him from flyball and agility, and i've stopped playing fetch with him, but i'm pretty much allowing him to lope around the yard at will, and i've been leash walking him a lot. i've been trying to do more training with him, but he has so much energy and he finds the stuff we're doing boring and annoying. usually when i train with him, i use ball or tug as a reward, but now i can't use either. he gets frustrated barky and nippy and it makes it really not that fun for me.
it's not getting better. it's not getting worse, but it's not getting better.
i called yesterday and made an appointment with a sports vet, someone who is specifically into rehab. the place is two hours away, so ongoing visits for rehab aren't possible, but i feel the initial consult (hopefully a definitive diagnosis!) and advice on what he can/can't do, what i can do to help him recover, and how to prevent this in the future is going to be worth the money. (i think it's an iliopsoas pull but i am not a vet.)
but his appointment isn't until the 17th, and that was her first available.
i'm going out of my mind. steve's long been out of his mind. i wake up in the wee hours of the morning to him trying to provoke a bullydog into a game of biteyface. he just has that much pent up energy and i don't know what to do with him.
