I'm completely disgusted that the bill allowing businesses and people to refuse service based on their potential customer's sexual orientation was passed in Indiana. Like wow, proud to be an American where at least I know I can be discriminated based on my sexual orientation.
If it makes you feel any better, I think almost every single person I know (and I'm from Indiana) is just as disgusted with it. I totally get that the bill "may not say that"...but in this political climate, even if it DIDN'T say that, passing it was going to create a **** storm. Whoever didn't see that is an absolute idiot. And if it DOES say "what prior federal law(s) already state(s)", then why in the heck did it need to be RESTATED when the political climate is what it is.
I'm a Hoosier (even if I'm living in Mississippi). I'm a christian. I'm proud to be a Hoosier. I'm proud to be a christian. I am NOT proud or pleased about this bill, and I hope it gets shot down as soon as it can.
I'm all for religious freedom. Heck, I don't even mind if you own a business and you pick and choose your clients. It's your business. If you only want to cater to vegetarians that are atheists and have a Golden Retriever, that's your business...but don't expect to be in business very long when the meat eating, religious, cat owning public avoids you/tells their friends to avoid you. If I'm a meat eating, religious, cat owning person, I'll stay the hell away from you and take my business elsewhere if you, as a vegetarian, atheist, Golden Retriever owner can't be a big enough person to get over your views in life to run an actual business in a professional manner without letting your own personal opinions dictate who you accept as a client.
But passing this law NOW, KNOWING it would be taken as a sign that business are allowed to discriminate against the LGTB community due to religious beliefs (even if it "doesn't actually say that")? Pure stupidity. And idiocy. And bigotry. And every other bad word you can think of.
I'm so upset that this is even an issue.
