:yikes: you we're already jumping him over fences that high and when he was only two years old! You did know that a horse's bones aren't fully mature till they hit three right? And even there, all the horses at my local stables are only allowed to do jumps maybe the height of two trotting poles on top of each other to begin with...
By that I mean till they are used to doing them, then around the age of four-ish they can do jumps that are half their height or more...
LOL you most definately mis-read what I wrote! ;]
Though, I'll give a break down to his work load. I broke him (as in, sat on him and walked him around with a saddle on) at 2 years old and as he got older there was more walking, then eventually adding 2 minutes of trotwork which eventually built up to more. His first canter down the long side of the arena was about 1-2 months before his third birthday. His third year was working on steering, stopping, large circles and cantering. Very occasionally I'd pop him over a 6" crossrail as he enjoyed that and it was always a nice, positive end to a REALLY nice ride (when he was doing more than normal). At 4 his overfences work actually really started where I brought a coach in to give me some lessons to work on with him. At that time we moved to the current barn I boarded at and really started overfences work and showing. Nowadays it's putting all that finesse and extra work on him, like getting the hind end engaged longer (he's naturally heavy on the front end so THAT'S fun work), getting the "perfect" canter out of him, getting more ring experience, etc. That's all stuff we're currently working on and it's going great!
Thanks for all the compliments guys!
ammo - GORGEOUS horses! I love me some grey percherons! I'm a sucker for the drafty ones!
bubbatd - I don't have to braid that mane (Yay!), We tried thinning it, as well as trying to flatten but it does not go over well. And we found a loophole that should a judge try to penalize me for that mane, my excuse is that it's a "breed trait/tradition" and since hunters is open to all breeds - they cannot discriminate. Now, if they got technical since he's a Fjord *cross* then I don't have much to argue back with LOL
He's a fun horse though! I have a horse show tomorrow so hopefully all goes well and we get tons of pictures, I'll post them here as soon as I can! =)
For now, I'll give some pictures of Symbah throughout the years!
