I love Roxie's prey drive. We have a chipmunk problem, and she found holes in the yard within minutes that I took her out there (usually she's only on the side yard, as we have a whole acre and a half and it's all unfenced).

The screaming kinda surprised me, lol. We're gonna have to find a better system to get rid of them though, because it seems like they keep going to other holes whenever Roxie and I try and flush a hole... would be nice to have a pack of JRTs right now lol.
My arms and shoulders are SO sore from this.

Gonna exterminate the chippy hopefully on Monday.

Fable spent all day at the dog rescue with me today and she did so well. I absolutely love how adaptable she is to every situation and how generally awesome she is. She was on a tie down in the office and shared with Baxter the yorkie mix that just had foot surgery and a blind lhasa mix, and she was really good with both of them (even though Baxter kept smacking her with his cone). She's just the best

And we got in two 4 week old BCx puppies that I got to snuggle. That was definitely one of the highlights of the day amidst crazy people and dogs that **** in their crates.

Sometimes I look at Gambit and wonder if I know him at all, or if I ever will. I can almost always predict his behavior, but I couldn't tell you why he does it. The whippet are so easy, and he's such a different creature.

Don't get me wrong, I love him deeply. But I think there's a part of his spirit that I'll just never be able to touch. I don't know if it's that he was born feral, or he coyote blood, or just Gambit being Gambit, but there's an almost tangible difference between him and any other dog I've worked with

Ughhh just when I thought this job couldn't get any worse...

The person who is training me is super into "The Dog Whisperer" and just alpha rolled a dog because he wouldn't sit. Keep in mind, I work at an animal shelter, in the holding room (where the new strays come for their quarantine period) and this dog has probably never heard of the word "sit" before. He was also trying to "dominate" a dog who was in the euthanasia room. **** you, this dog is going to be dead tomorrow, let it live it's last day without being bullied and scared to death.

He wants to teach me how to alpha roll. **** me.

Paige, are you replacing this person or do you have to work under them where you have to do things the way they want?

If you will be working on your own with your own autonomy after training I would just stay quiet for training. Then after you will know that the dogs you handle will be handled by a humane person and you can feel good about that.

If you're going to be working under them and have to handle things the way that they say to with no autonomy at all.... Then I'd seriously start looking for other employment.

After barking nonstop for 4 hours at work last week, this week Cajun didn't bark at all, AND she was there longer. I'll take a fluke, because I'm sure that's all it was.

For those who didn't see on Facebook, our oldest man, Bruno, passed away the other night. He'd been sick for a while; and after numerous tests - while in that time getting steroids, then upped, and different foods to try and get him to eat more and keep on weight - he just didn't have anything coming up and he was slowly getting worse and not looking like things were going to look up, and we had decided we were going to let him go, but before that he did end up passing away in bed after a potty break and drink for the night. He was still chipper and was about 15, and while we only had him since 2009, think he had a pretty good time, so that was some comfort. But it was just time.

The boyfriend officially just said when we get a place I can get whatever kind of dog I like "as long as it's beautiful." And we hope to be settled in within the next year.

It's time to get serious and start actually doing some real preliminary looking. :D

My dogs think the FitPaws peanut is the best thing ever, but don't like to wait their turn. Ru can now hold a sit pretty without falling over. Brisbane...can finally stand on the thing without wobbling too hard. Poor guy started with zero core strength. I'm interested to see how their toplines change.

So irritated with Lucy. Ever since she's been on prednisone she's been peeing in my room at night, because she's too much of a jerk to communicate that she needs to go outside. Oh no, the carpet is just fine. So tonight we bought a crate and now she can enjoy that sleeping quarters.

Then today as I was trimming Cajun's nails, all of a sudden I hear a ruckus and there's Lucy, with my cat pinned on his back underneath her making horrible cat sounds. WTF dog??? So I run over to grab her and of course Cajun follows me and thinks she needs to stick her face in it.

And then there's Juno, 2 inches away wagging her tail and staying out of the whole thing.

Every single person who has asked about foster puppy Xena has wanted to know if she is good with kids. My standard answer is that she was socialized well with them as a young pup, is extremely tolerant of handling, and warms up go new people right away so she has all the makings of a great kids' dog, but I don't have any kids to test her with. Nobody ever gets back to me.

I really need to see how she does with kids, but I don't have any and none of my friends do either. We don't see many on our outings either. Xena shuts down in new places so taking her places she is likely to meet kids doesn't really work unless I keep taking her there until it stops being new.

Solution: Hang around the playground like a total creep every day until Xena acclimates to the sights and sounds.

One of Glitch's baby teeth fell out today and landed in my lap while we were on lunch break. He also got his rabies shot this week. So as I was feeling weepy and nostalgic about his little lost baby tooth (really lost, because it has slid somewhere into the wasteland of my car), we found out that the pet store we go to was having portraits done as a fundraiser. Of course we had to get one.

I am so proud of Glitch. They had an ottoman type thing set up in front of a cute background, and a really nice set-up with all of the weird umbrella lights and odd looking bits.

Glitch jumped onto the ottoman like he owned the place. He held a sit/stay and a down/stay while the photographer got in his face with a camera and the umbrella lights flashed. He was obviously a bit confused as to what was happening, but not afraid at all.

We go next week to see the pictures and pick the best one, but everything we got looked great. The photographer was super impressed with his skills at such a young age and is pretty sure that she'll want to use some of the pictures in advertising materials.

God I love this little dude.

Two 6 month old puppies escaped their owners yesterday. They were both adopted from the rescue I volunteer at, so that is why I'm involved. They're from different litters and have different owners, but both pups are very shy.

One was found several hours ago and is back at home safe and sound. The other is still missing. And as much as I'm hoping for him to be found safe and sound, his level of shyness and lack of training coupled with the fact that he escaped near a very busy road and train tracks has me expecting the worst. I'd really appreciate some vibes that he's found safe and sound. :/

Someone remind me to get Roxie a new rain coat.

We got thoroughly soaked on our walk this morning. That was fun. I think I've given Roxie 3 baths now in two weeks.
