Can anyone explain these behaviors in Khaki....she's my 1 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd....Just some odd things I've noticed.

1. After eating, she chews on one particular pull toy for about 10-15 minutes.. This is the only time she ever touches that toy...Is she cleaning her teeth or something?

2. When I come home after leaving her alone, she hides in the hallway of my house next to my bedroom door. She only does this if she's left alone. I can call and call her, but she won't move until she see's that it's me. Then it's the normal Aussie excitement. Is this a form of seperation anxiety? She doesn't chew or destroy anything in the house while I'm gone...

3. She will sit at the foot of my bed and stare at herself in the dresser mirror every morning for a few minutes...admiring her own beauty or trying to figure out what's staring back at her?

4. Sometimes she will lift one leg like a male when peeing. Not a full lift, her foot will be 2-3 inches off of the ground.

5. She talks back like a kid.....If I tell her no, she will cock her head to the side, cut her eyes over at me and start making "Chewbacca" noises at me...

Anyway, some of these things are funny and some are just strange. Any ideas about any of them?

Here's Khaki.

I think dogs are like people- we all have our wierd little things that make us unique! Since none of your dog's habits are harmful, I'd just accept them as part of her personality. Our dog sighs very loudly when she wants to go out- such a drama queen! She also runs between people's legs- we can't figure out if she's just wanting to touch them affectionately, or if she's wanting a butt scratching. They are all cute little wierd things that make her Zoe. :D

that's an aussie for ya *vbg*,,they definately have their strange little quirks!

My female does a few strange but predictable things..and I mostly know why tho,,like if I open a drawer in the bathroom she barks, it's usually a signal for her I'm about ready to head downstairs,,she also stares at herself in the mirror, (I think she thinks she is "all that" *vbg*) ,,everyday she does something that's definately entertaining, and I think that's what aussies are here for, the entertainment *vbg*

I read somewhere that Aussie's are considered to be the comedians in the dog world.....I know that is true now that I have an Aussie....she's always making me laugh at her sillyness..

The peeing thing is normal. :)

Has anyone.. not you.. ever come home and hurt her/scared her while you are out? Only thing I can think of. It sounds like she's scared, almost, until she knows it's you.

No, only people that have access to my house are my parents who live next door to me. They dog sit her most days and would never harm her. They say she does the same thing at their house when they leave her there alone for a while and come back home.....except she lays on their couch until she see's them and recognizes them. She really does act like she's scared. Maybe she's scared of being by herself........

Khaki is adorable, but I'm completely biased. :D

Sawyer will stare at himself in my full-length mirror if I'm doing the same thing at the same time.

I've seen many girl dogs lift their legs up when peeing.

The hiding is odd, but maybe it's a game to her? Some Aussie version of "Hide and Seek?" Who knows?
