Well the time has come to get Stoli fixed....My vet gave me a quote of $336.56  Does this sound like to much? How much did it cost to get your dog fixed?

Is that just the spay or does that include bloodwork too? I think Nanook was 150-180 to get spayed. something like that. And bloodwork was about 50. And that's cdn.

I don't remember... it was 1997 when I had Roxie spayed. But, I'm pretty sure it was 150-200.

I would check around though.

SNAP, a corporation that has several branches in the US, has done all my animals, for dogs I think it is $35 male and $65 female neuter/spay with $10 rabies if you get the spay/neuter done there, same day surgery.
Many of these places that specialize are cropping up around the country, this particular clinic I believe receives non profit donations to keep the cost down.

Yes...the price includes the bloodwork and pain meds.....I am guessing now that weight is a factor in the price? I don't understand what weight has to do with it.....but Stoli already weighs 45 lbs at 5 months. So I guess thats why it's so expensive.....I just wasn't expecting 350 dollars...

Has that been your vet for a long time? It is possible you may be able to find another vet to do it cheaper, if you aren't set on using that vet.

LOL....I hold no loyalties to any vet! If I can save a buck I will! LOL :D The thing is I have been calling around places the last couple minutes and everyone is saying $300+. Except one place that quoted me $157....and I am not taking my baby there....I mean if everyone else is $300+ then what are these guys doing to be able to charge 1/2 as much as everyone else?

I guess it just depends on the area you live in. I have never heard of anyone charging $300 for a spay or neuter. At least not in my area, I guess I have heard of it since a lot of people are saying theirs cost that much. But that seems like a lot to me, I guess Im glad I live in an area were vets dont charge that much.

I guess that can be part of it, my beagle only weighed 26, but even still i dont think mak's huskies cost $300 to get neutered.

Maya was spayed last month and it cost around $220. This included bloodwork and everything. I believe it goes up by weight because of the dosage of medication they will have to use, but I am certainly no expert and that is just a guess. If Maya had been above 30lbs. it would have cost about $50 more. Thank goodness she was only 29. :) Animal Control here will spay them a lot cheaper, and trust me my fiance pushed and pushed for me to have them do it, but she is my baby. I love my vet and he was the only one I trusted.

I live in Wisconsin. I dont know why its so expensive where you are, Have you checked into any low cost programs?I think sometimes humane so. have that, but I'm not sure it might be only if you had adopted you dog there.

Check out www.spayusa.org, they specialize in low cost spay/neuter programs.

The most costly part of the surgery is the anesthesia, which has to be administered by weight.
