I am saying goodbye to Todd tomorrow afternoon. Wish him luck as he ventures out into his new world. He has great new parents that I know will love and cherish him and provide all he deserves, but he'll always be one of my babies...

His bags are packed, his binder is completed and his bag of food is all waiting now. He'll get his final bath and nail trim in the morning. At this point, I don't know if I'll cry, but I know I'll be sad. It's a very bitter-sweet time. This has by far been a dream fulfilled and to see the happiness he will bring his knew owners just seals the deal for me.

Be thinking of him tomorrow...

From this (blue collar)

To this!

Showpug, if I lived in Oregon, I swear I'd take Todd.

He's just sooo cute! Creepy, cuz I was looking for a pug myself last week! XD

Awww, Showpug. My heart just sank when I read this thread. After the great job you did on updates, they feel like part of the family. I know that he's going to a wonderful home; I know you wouldn't settle for anything less for one of your babies. But I may still shed a tear or two.

Oh that's sad, but you know he's going to a good home and you've given him the best start in life, plus I'm sure the new owners will stay in touch.
I was actually thinking about this the other day, saying goodbye to animals. I would love to maybe breed Samoyeds one day, but I don't think I'd be able to give them up.
You do such a good job with those pups, and they're going to have a truly great life.

You know, it's weird...as much as you don't want to part with them you are almost proud to see them go. Knowing that each puppy you send off is a symbol of over a year of research. Looking at pictures, pedigrees and health records. Laying awake at night sleepless and wondering if you are choosing the best mate, going with the right lines. Being there when they take their first breath and then worrying non-stop for the first four weeks. Knowing that every interaction you have with them is a lasting imprint on who they will become as dogs and working daily to think up new ideas of how you can better equip them for their lives outside your home. When you have a litter of puppies, you work hard being sure you have put all you can into these pups, not so you can keep them, but so you know that at least there are a few well bred, well socialized pugs out there that make your breed proud. When the public see and interact with these dogs they get a small dose of education about your breed just by their presence. They are my mark on the breed I love and will for as long as I am able, work to preserve.

So as sad as it is to see them go, it is also a moment filled with pride. I did this! It's complete and I am proud!

Agree about the pride when they leave . When you've done your best , they are the best .

How did the fairwell go?
It went really well. I just couldn't be sad...I was so happy for his new family as I saw the joy he brought them. It made every moment so worth while and I could just feel their excitement and happiness. Todd will always have a piece of my heart, but he is in the BEST of hands now and I couldn't be more proud!:)

His new parents will send pictures and keep in touch so I know I'll see the little bugger again...maybe even in person if we head up to Seattle for a dog show weekend or Mariner's game!

My new families were always overwhelmed with the pup's " suitcase " ...The " how to Raise ----" book , food , special plush toys I made with all pups and Mommy's smells on it, records , pamplets of A dog's prayers , Spay/ Neuter / jokes / cartoons about writing home etc etc . And then a phone call the next day . All used to say it was the best pup they'd ever known . Now how could I have been sad !

I hear you Grammy! Todd went home with a big binder filled with:
  • registration application papers
  • contract
  • approved food list
  • four generation pedigree
  • photos of sire and dam
  • copies of Alice's health clearances
  • Pug Dog Club of America breeder code of ethics
  • Pug care sheet that I wrote
  • feeding instructions
  • vaccination and deworming record
  • 10 commandments of dog owndership
    • food hand outs/brochures & coupons

He also went home with a baby blanket that smells like my home and litter mates and his own bag of food. I wouldn't have it any other way!
