Poor Rip. I'm so sorry for your family. Hugs to you. I hope his treatment is a complete success and he can live without pain. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Thanks so much everyone.

I was happy this morning to see Ripken bound out of his kennel like from a sling-shot! It seems his 2 doses of Pred yesterday have already started kicking in. His jaw is still swollen and he can't open it much, but he did bark at me and I haven't heard in make a sound, other than a wimper, in days. He will be on Pred twice a day over the next 2 weeks. If he does well and is showing improvement, the dosage will be cut down to once a day for at least an additional 2 weeks up to 6 months if need be.

But really it's a day by day thing. As long as he is showing improvement on the Pred and is happy and eating & drinking well, then we will continue the therapy. But if he fails to improve or just seems to have more days than bad days then we will put him down. I just can't stand by and watch a dog suffer miserably all because I want him to be alive. So as long as he fights, I will fight. But if he quits fighting or isn't winning the fight, then we will let him go with peace and dignity.

And this is why I HATE autoimmune diseases. It's a cruel demise when your own body is what is killing you. :(

Now I'm just trying to contact his breeder but I'm not having any luck due to a recent change in phone number.
