The night is over
And everything that has happened has just been to quick
I noticed you having trouble breathing
I took you in my arms and cuddled you
Trying to make you feel better
I didn’t know the end was so near
When you screamed in my arms I knew something was terribly wrong
My heart stopped and my stomach dropped
Seeing you in pain was the hardest thing I have ever gone through
On the ride to the vet in the cold dampness of the November night
I could only pray for the best
When we got to the vets they couldn’t figure out what was wrong
I heard words like, cancer, pneumonia, disease, tumor
These words drifted past me
All I could do was hold you and comfort you
As I gazed into your eyes, I started to cry
The vet tech, my mom and the vet did not matter
I thought only of you
Our life together
When the vet said 500 dollars and my mom looked at me
The only words that came out of my mouth were “ I will payâ€
Money is just money and nothing more
As I left you there for the night
Snuggled in your favorite blue blanket in the incubator
I smiled, you were finally in comfort
The dose of morphine the vet gave you helped
I left you in the best of hands
I was sad leaving you there
As the vet said you were in a lot of pain when you arrived
And that you didn’t have a great chance
The words he used were “the prognosis does not look good"
I am sorry that you had to die
In a strangle place
With strange people
Run free Carmel, I will miss you
I will miss your snuggly bunny kisses
The way you threw you’re the litter in the litter box everywhere
Making a mess
I will miss the sound of the pitter patter of your feet across the tiles of the kitchen floor
Your sweetness was astounding
I will miss seeing you in your favorite hiding place
and will miss giving you you favorite fruit bananas
I am sorry that I never spent as much time with you as I should have
In the 5 years that you lived me know that you were loved
I am sorry that you had to go
I will miss you terribly
My little Carmel, run free and not in pain
The vet just called,
It was
Uterus cancer that had spread to your lungs and lymph nodes
There was nothing that they could have done
I am sorry I couldn’t help either
I loved you Carmel
And will miss you
