I took Em's to the vet Saturday because she's been doing this huffing kind of thing where it sounds like a sneeze is caught in her throat. She does it over and over again.. sometimes for 1/2 hour at a time. It was really starting to scare me!! The vet said it was most likely airborne allergies. I was wondering if it's all the dust being kicked up in the new house, from moving thing around and whatnot. I just wondered if anyone has any experience with this, and if it goes away.. or what I should do to help. The vet recommended rubbing the sides of her throat..

I had one female who did it more than the other dogs. It could be the new house ...not dust as much as new odors from new materials etc. Nothing to worry about .

Reverse sneezing is very common. My pugs do it quite often and they don't have allergies.

Grammy is right, it's really nothing to worry about. It sounds and looks way worse than it actually is. To get your dog to stop doing it, I usually hold something that smells really strong that they want to sniff in front of their nose. This helps them re-gain control because they start to smell what I am holding and the reverse sneezing stops.

my best friend's twin sister's dog has small dog who has it. Her's is pretty bad, they couldn't get her 'fits' to stop and she had trouble breathing - she now takes meds for it, though I'm not sure what. :)

Thanks, I will definitely try that! It's so scary when she starts doing it... she just gets this look then starts huffing and puffing and shaking a little bit. She continues on running and playing.. only stopping for a minute to get it under control. It scares her momma more than her I think!!

We have a yorkie girl that does this. It is definitely scary when it is happening and you don't know what it is. We took her to the vet as well and they assured us it was nothing to worry about. Like someone else said, just rub her throat to help her relax.
