Out of freakin no where sadie has started eating stuff out of our cats litter box and making me rather mad. We turned the litter box towards the corner of the wall so only the cat can get in,and she just pushes it out and goes in there. We can't ever catch her doing it either because she always does it while we're in another room pre occupied with something. It's starting to make her sick, and is disgusting. What can I do?

It's a dog thing and she's learned, like so many others, that it's better to raid the box when no one's around. Prevention, of course, is the key.
Where is the box? Ours is in the corner of the laundry/mud room and there's a door to close room off, so we put in a cat door - dogs can't fit, problem solved. My brother's cat had her box in the basement and they put a cat door in the basement door. If you can't close off the room and add a cat door, what about baby gates?

Its in our laundry room as well. However we keep the cats food in there as well on a small table to keep sadie from getting into it,so the cat needs access to the room all the time.

I live with my girlfriend, and her grandparents are renting their house out to us since they moved to Florida. Not sure if they'll let us cut into the door and put a cat door into that room.

Like counter surfing and fridge raiding once a behavior is found to be self rewarding they'll engage in it any chance they get. IMO the only way to extinguish this sort of nonsense is to make the litter box 100% inaccessible by putting it in the closet with a cat door on the door OR find a way to be 100% consistent in keeping the dog away from the box.

In my home if the litter box could not be moved I'd simply tape an indoor invisible fence sensor to the top of it or make the room a dog free room. It solved my counter surfing issue to do this with my lab in my kitchen. A sensor will be consistent in a way I simply can't be.

we keep a baby gate across the room that contains the cat food and boxes. The cats jump over without issue, but the dogs are kept out

I have this gate across the room where the litter box is as well as the cat food & water. The gate has a small door at the bottom that the cat can go through. You can get one online or at pet stores.

Petsmart has it on their website:

We keep the cat boxes in the laundry room with a cat door cut into the door as well. As the others suggested though if that's not possible a gate is a great idea. It's a little more hassle for you, but your dog won't get to the box anymore.

You could also remove door, and replace it with a cheap-o one and cut a hole in it (that's what we did at our old house). I also second the baby-gates, cats are really good at jumping over em - poodles too LOL
