I ran into a guy at the dog park yesterday who is opening up a float trip/camping spot about 15 minutes from here in an effort to revitalize the river and get people to care about it again. He wants to make it dog friendly and was looking for suggestions on what all to do and how much people would be willing to pay, things like that. So far he said he's thinking canoe rental is $50/day, primitive camping spots (no water/elec) for $10/day...can bring your own tent or rent one from them. Showers on site.

Yes? No? Suggestions?

As an aside, I met my first Am. Tundra shepherd yesterday as well. That's a monster-sized dog, holy cow! The guy had no idea what his percentages were or anything like that, but he seems to have gotten the size of the wolf and the temperment of the GSD. Talk about a ground-eating trot!

Our canoe trips here (dog-friendly) are about $30/day (up to 13 miles). That includes rental and drop-off.

By the way, we're considering getting CFDs (life jackets) for the dogs. I'm an experienced canoer and my girlfriend just follows my lead. However, our friends capsized last time and lost all of their gear. In the case that we capsize, I want the dogs to be able to get to shore without having to fight currents, undertows, etc. to stay afloat. For swimming in lakes when we're supervising, they don't need anything. But in an unpredictable river? I'm not taking any chances.
