Anyone else who knows, please speak up also! Well, we have decided we will get another Australian Shepherd in around about a year or so. I have been looking at a lot of breeder sites getting an idea as to who we may want to consider for a puppy. One site I looked at said that they guarenteed their puppies to never have seizers as long as they were not ever dewormed with ivermectin. My question is, are Aussies more sensetive to certain dewormers more than other breeds? I have never read that, from any other breeders or Aussie info sites.

All I know is a bunch of the herders (collie family it seems) have reactions to ivermectin. Aussies, Collies, Shelties, Border collies, etc are more likely to be sensitive to ivermectin.

Yes, ivermectin-sensitivity in the collie breeds (Aussies, Borders, Rough/Smooth Collies, etc) has been pretty well documented. You can avoid this by using products like Interceptor, that both prevent heartworm and deworm without the risk of ivermectin. Some vets don't believe in ivermectin sensitivity, saying that issue arose only because ranchers were dosing their dogs with the same amounts they were using on their livestock. I personally think the ranchers were probably a bit smarter than that and just avoid ivermectin products altogether.

Who all have you been looking at? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post out in the open.

Thanks! I had no idea about that. My vet never said anything, but he put Aussie on Interceptor and I am so glad. As far as looking at breeders I have looked at so many, most way away from me and I probably won't be able to have one shipped, but I like the sound of Blue Myst Australian Shepherds, but they don't ship anyway I don't believe. Then, closer to us in Georgia is Nite Star Australian Shepherds. I have looked at a lot of them to get an idea what all are normal health tests and gurantees for Australian Shepherds. Any good breeders you know of, tell me and I will look at them. Thanks so much for your help!
