Photoshop CS3 is the most current version, the version before is CS2, and before that is CS. I'd reccommend either CS2 or CS3. I had photshop 7 for a long time, and it's a lot harder to use than the newer versions, Adobe put a lot of work into making CS, CS2, and CS3 more intuitive than previous versions.
I have CS2 and LOVE it! Much better than 7 which I had previously! Here is an awesome page with tutorials!

Unless you need all the features of CS2 or CS3, you might want to consider Photoshop Elements (current version is 5.0). It's a pretty strait forward photo-editing program without ALL the bells and whistles, but you can get a lot accomplished with it and it's only about $100 (download the free trial before you buy and you'll likely get a discount for having a "previous version").
The new CS3 also is a torrent with a KeyGen. If you know what your doing you can download the full version of Photoshop free forever.

..you'll come to a second screen click the cnet trademark download save to disk or run and install like normal. Keep open.
Go to www.mininova.com type in the search at the top "PhotoShop CS3 with keygen", scroll down to the results and pick the one with the most seeders listed click and download, the torrent will go right to bitcomet ... might take a while depending on speed of your pc. Wait till 100% and open it.
...follow the instructions with the keygen.exe and adobe setup like normal, then when it asks for the keycode hit generate on keygen ... :yikes:
